MILAN (ITALPRESS) – Hyundai announces the lists and the opening of orders of New Nexo, the second generation of the brand’s hydrogen fuel cell electric SUV, the result of almost 30 years of experience in FCEV technology, which have consecrated Brand as a global reference in hydrogen mobility.
Hyundai’s third generation of SUV fuel cell following ix35 Fuel Cell, the world’s first generation of hydrogen fuel cells produced by Hyundai in 2013, and the first generation of NEXO, introduced in 2016 with innovative features and technologies, New NEXO represents a significant step forward for hydrogen mobility and sustainable mobility as a whole. This launch reiterates the company’s commitment to a diversified electrification strategy, from battery electric vehicles to fuel cell electric vehicles, through the various hybrid drives.
New Nexo thus consolidates a leadership built over time in the world of hydrogen mobility, able to offer efficiency, reduced supply times and extended autonomy. With a new technical architecture, a completely revolutionary design and a deeply evolved technology package, the model interprets the Hyundai vision for sustainable and multi-technological mobility, designed to meet the real needs of people and to anticipate the energy transformations of the future.
New Nexo is the first Hyundai model to embrace the brand’s new and innovative style, Art of Steel: a distinctive approach that combines solidity, functionality and aesthetics in an impeccable balance, in which each line is designed to have a precise role. The surfaces of the body take a central role: the shell is shaped through sculpted volumes and visual tensions that convey immediate sensations of formal cleaning, innovation and structural robustness.
The HTWO light signature, developed specifically for fuel cell models, not only gives the car an immediate recognizability, but becomes an integral part of its identity, marking the face of a different and advanced technology. The new three-layer painting process amplifies perception of perceived quality. The shades – including the new Ocean Indigo Matte and Goyo Copper Pearl – capture and reflect the light dynamically, returning to the car an ever different stage presence according to the context. The functional elements also contribute to overall elegance: the balanced proportions, the aerodynamic care of front and side and the new design of the rims – from 18′′ or 19′′′ – define a modern, refined and surprisingly harmonious car.
The cabin reflects the same principles, but interpreted through the lens of intuitive technology and wellness on board. The space has been redesigned to be wide and airy, thanks to the low position of the dashboard and the visual continuity created by the new 12.3′′ curved display, which integrates instrumentation and infotainment in a single digital arc. The carefully selected sustainable materials combine with soft touch surfaces and refined finishes, creating a minimalist and welcoming environment.
The increase in the size and adjustment of the seats has improved the habitability for all occupants, while the trunk – up to 510 liters – makes the car suitable for longer trips. Relaxation seats complete the experience with a posture designed to offer maximum ergonomics and support, transforming every move into a moment of comfort.
With Nuova Nexo, Hyundai reiterates its vision that technology is not a simple tool, but an ecosystem that accompanies the driver at every stage of the driving experience in a natural and concrete way. The infotainment system with double curved display is practical and satisfying to use: graphic quality, responsiveness and simplicity of navigation are at the highest level, while integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless allows an immediate connection with personal devices.
Function management is carried out through a streamlined and intuitive interface, which reduces distraction and is updated via OTA technology. One of the most significant news is the introduction of the Voice Recognition Generative AI, which allows more natural, contextual and articulated conversations. The system is able to understand complex phrases, adapt to user language and activate numerous functions of the car without diverting attention from the guide. This is accompanied by the Head-Up Display 12′′′′ and the Digital Key 2.0, which allows you to open, close and start the car through compatible smartphones.
The sound experience reaches very high levels thanks to the Bang & Olufsen system with 14 speakers, designed to offer a rich, precise and immersive audio. The integration of technologies like the Active Road Noise Control contributes to creating an extremely quiet cabin, enhancing the natural quiet of the powertrain fuel cell.
On the security front, the Hyundai SmartSense package – further developed – covers the entire spectrum of the most advanced driving assistance functions: to support the driver and ensure safety and comfort in every context.
The technological heart of the New Nexo is its advanced fuel cell architecture, which represents a further step in the panorama of hydrogen mobility. The new fuel cell has been optimized to improve thermal efficiency and the capacity to convert hydrogen into energy, while the electric motor delivers 204 CV (150 kW) and 350 Nm torque for a smooth and surprisingly reactive drive. The acceleration 0-100 km/h in 7.8 seconds and the maximum speed of 176 km/h emphasize the maturity achieved by FCEV technology, which combines the typical electricity readiness with a natural and progressive delivery continuity.
One of the main strengths is the extraordinary autonomy: with tanks capable of storing 6.69 kg of hydrogen, the car reaches up to 826 km in the WLTP mixed cycle, positioning itself among the highest routes in the panorama of electric vehicles with zero emissions to the exhaust. The supply, which can be completed in about five minutes in the dedicated stations, returns the practicality and immediacy of a traditional car, making hydrogen a concrete, versatile and easily integrated solution for the most intensive use.
The new generation also introduces a capacity for up to 1,000 kg, an important result for a fuel cell car and a further test of its technical maturity. The e-Handling and Smart Regenerative System technologies work together to modulate the vehicle’s response according to road conditions, improving stability, fluidity and energy recovery.
The Italian range of the New Hyundai NEXO is divided into two sets, both designed to offer an extremely rich level of equipment. The base of the range is Business, with a price of 72,600 euros. Designed to offer complete equipment, it stands out for 18′′′ alloy wheels, Full LED Wide Projection headlights, position lights and LED back lights, automatic folding handles and electric rear door. Daily convenience is also guaranteed by adjustable side mirrors, heatable and foldable electrically, in addition to the Vehicle-to-Load functionality, available both inside and outside, to power electrical devices through the car.
The cabin comes with a modern and high-tech environment: the new Cluster SuperVision from 12,3′′′ integrates with the touchscreen navigation system from 12,3′′, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless, OTA updates, Bluelink® telematic services, wireless charging for smartphones and dedicated USB-C connections. The comfort is ensured by equipment such as automatic two-zone air conditioning, heating steering wheel, rain sensor, electro-chrome rear viewer, front seats with electric and heated adjustment and lower back seats 60:40.
