PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – Tourism starts again in view of Christmas, although the increase in travel costs weighs on travel. The island for the Immaculate Bridge has already been booked 59% of the accommodation available online, compared to a national average of 72%.
The data emerges from the analysis of the availability found on the main portals of the Online Travel Agency, net of seasonal closures, carried out by the Centro Studi Turistici in Florence for Assoturismo Confesercenti. It will not be a bridge of full employment, therefore.
The cost of flights does not help – Confesercent points out -: on some national routes (from North Italy to Sicily, Sardinia and Puglia), the prices are sketched up to +900% regarding the base rates or the periods of low season. A Milan-Catania or Milan-Palermo flight for hot days (e.g. departure 23/24 December) can only exceed 800 Euros, costing more than one flight to New York.
“The increase in travel costs weighs. The 13 percentage points less on the percentage of receptive employment, are the proof of this,” says Vittorio Messina, national president of Assoturismo and regional president of Confesercenti Sicilia. That emphasizes: “It is necessary to make a political negotiation with airlines but it is also necessary to work on the quality of the offer, on the seasonalization and on the promotion to increase the flows of our island”.
