GENOA (ITALPRESS) – Penalty kicks were needed to decide the derby della Lanterna and steer it in favor of Andrea Sottil’s Sampdoria, which won the Marassi challenge against Alberto Gilardino’s Genoa and detached the pass for the round of 16 of the Coppa Italia, where it will face Roma. Zanoli’s mistake on the seventh penalty in the series then sealed by former Barreca was decisive, after the equalizer came in the 90′ through goals by Pinamonti and Borini.

Few chances and several changes for both Genoa and Sampdoria, in a finale where Gilardino’s eleven try to defend neatly while the Blucerchiati try to create density on the opponent’s three-quarter. It will be Sottil himself, however, who will be right on the exchanges, at the 83rd minute, with the newly-entered Borini who receives a low ball on the edge of the Genoa area and with his right hand sends it where Leali this time can do nothing. Parity re-established and the result settling on the final 1-1 that led, as per the new regulations, directly to penalty kicks: thus Samp triumphed, with Genoa paying dearly for the mistakes from the penalty spot by Miretti and Zanoli.
