Dosso silver at world indoor track and field championships, Simonelli fourth

NANCHINO (CHINA) (ITALPRESS) – Zaynab Dosso is silver in the women’s 60-meter final at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing. The Italian, after winning the European title, finished second behind Mujinga Kambundji by just two hundredths (7.06 total time). The second international medalist within a few days, Dosso improved on the bronze she won in Glasgow a year ago.

An almost perfect race, only the right reaction at the start was missing: “I expected a lot from myself, but in the 60 meters the start does not forgive – commented the 25-year-old sprinter of the Fiamme Azzurre – I made a mistake and I paid for it, but at the same time I am very proud of my path: if I think about three years ago, I would have never expected to win a medal and today I am almost disappointed for the silver, it is strange for me. I wanted this gold, for me and for Italy, and I will keep working. In the semifinals I had made a wrong start, then in the finals I told myself to get on the blocks late, the starter kept us so much anyway and I got a little distracted. It was hard to run relaxed, but I’m glad I didn’t give up. For me it’s a starting point for the outdoor season.”

One step away from medaling Lorenzo Simonelli, in the 60m hurdles the Italian finished fourth in 7.60. Good result for the Esercito athlete who failed to repeat the silver medal from a year ago in the UK: the winner was the U.S. Grant Holloway in 7.42, silver to France’s Wilhem Belocian (7.54) and bronze to China’s Liu Junxi with 7.55. Usual dominance in the pole vault for Armand Duplantis, his third consecutive world indoor title. The Swede, a gold medalist in Paris, won in Nanjing with a measurement of 6.15, second to Greek Emmanouil Karalis (6.05m), third to U.S. Sam Kendricks (5.80).

Tomorrow the program closes for good: Giada Carmassi and Elisa Maria Di Lazzaro will be engaged in the batteries of the 60m hurdles, Idea Pieroni will compete in the high jump. Leonardo Fabbri and Zane Weir will attempt the feat in the shot put, medal hopes also for Mattia Furlani, silver at the European championships in Apeldoorn.
