WASHINGTON (USA) (ITALPRESS) – The Fifa Award for Peace was awarded to US President Donald Trump. The award, set up this year to reward “people who have taken exceptional and extraordinary actions for peace”, was delivered to tycoon during the draw in Washington of the World Cup 2026 which will be held from 11 June to 19 July between the US, Canada and Mexico.
“It is one of the greatest honors of my life, with Gianni (Infantino, ndr) we discussed how to save millions of lives. There are so many wars that we managed to end or avoid before they started. The world today is a safer place, the United States was not in good position, now we are the most coveted country in the world and the situation will remain this”, said Trump. “Infant did a fantastic job, he set new records on ticket sales. Numbers are beyond expectations. I think there will be an event that the world has never seen, I’ve never seen such an enthusiasm. We worked closely with Mexico and Canada to coordinate, relationships with these two countries are very good,” said Trump.
The President of the United States thanked the family and the first lady Melania Trump, in addition to Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, cited for their “coordination, friendship and relationship” in the path that led to recognition. Fifa announced the creation of the prize on November 5, about a month after the award of the Nobel Peace Prize 2026 to María Corina Machado, Venezuelan activist for democracy. Machado will receive the Nobel Prize on 10 December during the official ceremony in Oslo, Norway.
With his performance Andrea Bocelli had previously opened the World Cup 2026 draw ceremony in Washington. The Italian tenor, under the eyes of US President Donald Trump, performed ‘Nessun Dorma’. The tournament will be held from 11 June to 19 July between USA, Canada and Mexico.
