ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “This morning the base of Ali Al Salem, in Kuwait, which hosts American and Italian skills and personnel, was the subject of a drone attack that hit a shelter, inside which was sheltered a remote pilot aircraft of the Italian Task Force Air, destroyed. I immediately heard Colonel Mangini to tell me about the conditions of the Italian staff at the base. At the time of the attack all staff was in safety and was not involved. I have promptly informed the Minister of Defense Crosetto, with whom I am in constant contact for the continuous updating of the situation of all our quotas abroad.” Thus the Chief of State of Defense the General Luciano Portolano, in a statement published on X by the State Major of Defense.
“The Italian Task Force Air device had been previously relieved in recent days, in the context of measures taken in relation to the development of the security framework in the area. The staff remaining in the base is employed for the carrying out of the essential activities of the mission. The aircraft was an indispensable asset for the operation and was deployed in the base in order to ensure continuity of operations. The situation is constantly monitored by the Chief of State of Defense and the Operational Command of Interforze Summit (COVI), which maintain continuous contact with the quotas on the ground”, concluded Portolano.
