RIMINI (ITALPRESS) – Ribbon-cutting ceremony for the 27th edition of Ecomondo, the international event on the green transition and circular economy organized by Italian Exhibition Group (IEG), to be held at the Rimini Fairgrounds from Nov. 5 to 8.More than 1,600 exhibitor brands, buyers from more than 100 countries, 72 organizations, institutions and industry associations globally will be present. An expanded exhibition area with two new pavilions to accommodate the demand for attendance from companies and organizations, which will also meet as part of a comprehensive program of more than 200 meetings and conferences.Opening the inauguration ceremony, Maurizio Renzo Ermeti, President of IEG, stressed, “Today marks the inauguration of a record-breaking edition of Ecomondo: 166,000 square meters of exhibition space, achieved thanks in part to the two new pavilions for 8,300 square meters built in record time to meet the demands of this event and making Ecomondo 2024 the largest event ever held at the Rimini Trade Fair. As IEG, we can only be proud of this achievement. Established in 1997 under the name of Ricicla, today Ecomondo is the leading annual event in the green and circular economy sectors, a national and international occasion.” Anna Montini, Councillor for Ecological Transition of the Municipality of Rimini recalled, “Ecomondo is confirmed as one of the main events in Europe dedicated to the green economy supply chain, among the central development assets for our country, an extraordinary opportunity for comparison, growth and environmental innovation. An event that Rimini proudly embraces, not only by providing its hospitality system, but also by actively participating with a calendar of ‘off-showroom’ appointments organized with Rimini Blue Lab, IEG and other partners, which aims to bring Ecomondo even outside the spaces of the fairgrounds, to involve and stimulate even non-experts.””Ecomondo confirms itself as a key event for bringing sustainability to the center of public debate not only regionally, but also nationally and internationally,” said Irene Priolo, acting president of the Emilia-Romagna Region. “The extreme weather events that have also affected Emilia-Romagna despite itself have put the spotlight on the consequences of climate change for the lives of communities. A change of course is needed, a new development model capable of making natural resource conservation and circularity true levers of sustainable growth. This is an approach that the Region has made its own, together with institutional, labor and university representatives, with the Jobs and Climate Pact. An approach that is based on the strategic role of innovation, the best technologies and research, capable of exploring new frontiers and opening new ways to achieve the unavoidable goal we have set ourselves, decarbonization before 2050. “The program of conferences, workshops and events that Ecomondo offers again this year places this event at the center of international discussion on the most urgent issues of ecological transition and technological solutions for its European and international implementation,” said Fabio Fava, Chairman of the Technical Scientific Committee of Ecomondo. The Technical Scientific Committee, with the support of experts and institutions such as the European Commission, the European Environment Agency, FAO, and OECD, continues to be a guideline towards companies in the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors engaged in the transition, which meet at Ecomondo, a true laboratory of knowledge and innovation.”Fabrizio Lobasso, Deputy Director General for the Promotion of the Country System and Central Director for Economic Internationalization-Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, continued, “The international dimension of Ecomondo effectively meets the potential of Italian companies leading the ecological and digital transition. Companies able to bring quality and innovation to the markets towards global sustainability goals and to become a resource for the path of other countries in the international scenario. We are proud of this value that Italy brings to the world, which at Ecomondo has an important meeting place, comparison and new opportunities. “Concluding the speeches, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Minister for the Environment and Energy Security, confirmed, “Ecomondo is a privileged observatory on the national economy. Here is the winning Italy of the ecological transition, naturally aimed at decarbonization, efficiency, reasoned use of natural resources, and innovation in production. To achieve our climate goals, on which we will be confronted at the nearby Cop29, we need the great energy that comes from the Italian green economy and from winning models such as those of recycling, which we will continue to defend in every venue. “Present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony were Corrado Peraboni, CEO of IEG, Alessandra Astolfi, Global Exhibition Director Green & Technology Division IEG, Mauro Delle Fratte, Exhibition Manager Ecomondo. This was followed by the opening of the 13th edition of the States General of the Green Economy, promoted by the National Council for the Green Economy and the Foundation for Sustainable Development, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment and the European Commission. The updated picture on Italy’s progress and challenges in key areas such as decarbonization, circular economy and energy efficiency records a reduction in CO2 emissions of more than 6 percent, a leading country in the circular economy (3.6 euros of GDP for every kg of resource consumed), growing organic production, but also open challenges, such as the progressive increase in land consumption and sustainable mobility.
