Egypt and Gaza reconstruction, “International forces could be deployed”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty said the success of the Gaza reconstruction plan depends on the establishment of an independent committee to manage the transition period, pointing to a proposal for the Security Council to study the establishment of an international presence in Gaza and the West Bank.

Abdel-Ati added that international forces could be deployed in Gaza and the West Bank in accordance with a program establishing a Palestinian state. This came during a meeting attended by the Egyptian Foreign Minister with foreign ambassadors and representatives of international bodies and organizations regarding the rehabilitation of the health sector in the Gaza Strip.

The meeting, attended by Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, was held today at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs in Cairo. A video presentation of the Gaza reconstruction plan was offered in the presence of more than 100 ambassadors and representatives of international organizations. Minister Abdel-Ati reviewed the comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, prepared by Egypt in coordination with the Palestinian government.
