Elon Musk will award Giorgia Meloni in New York.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will receive the Global Citizen Award, the Atlantic Council’s prestigious award, in New York on September 23. Presenting her with the award will be Elon Musk, according to Bloomberg reports, with whom she will also hold a confidential meeting on the topics of space and artificial intelligence and to discuss the South African entrepreneur’s possible investments in Italy.

The award ceremony will be held on the sidelines of the work of the United Nations General Assembly, which will be attended by the Council president. In addition, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will also be honored.

This is not the first meeting between Musk and Meloni. A first time was in June 2023, when they had a conversation of about an hour and a half at Palazzo Chigi, and later, in December of the same year, Mr. X attended the Fratelli d’Italia “Atreju” party.

Meanwhile, in the background is the campaign for the race to the White House that is intensifying, and, at the moment, the latest polls give Kamala Harris a slight lead over Donald Trump. The Tesla founder remains one of the Tycoon’s main sponsors to the point of interviewing him during a show that lasted about two hours, in which they were able to range over so many topics such as immigration, foreign policy, security, and finally they put up a united front against the European Union.

History teaches us that the U.S. presidential election is played out on a razor’s edge, with percentages that fluctuate only slightly and where small states in the center can really make a difference. For that matter, there is still time and much can happen, but the Musk connection that Giorgia Meloni and Donald Trump share could be an enabler should Trump return to the White House. It is time to build bridges, but of one thing we can be certain: Italy is and always will be pro-Atlantic.
