ROME (ITALPRESS) – In November 2024, compared with the previous month, the number of employed people decreased (down 13 thousand, to 24 million
65 thousand) and the unemployed, while the number of inactive people grows. This is announced by Istat. The decline in employment (-0.1 percent, or -13 thousand) involves men, term employees and those aged 15-34; employment, on the other hand, is growing among women, permanent employees and those aged 35 or older, remaining essentially stable among the self-employed. The employment rate is unchanged at 62.4 percent.
The number of job seekers decreases (-1.6%, or -24 thousand) for women and those aged 25-49, while it increases in the other age groups and, albeit slightly, also among men. The unemployment rate falls to 5.7 percent (-0.1 points), the youth unemployment rate rises to 19.2 percent (+1.4 points).
The number of inactive persons increases (+0.2%, or +23 thousand) for men and those under 35, decreases in the other age groups and is essentially stable among women. The inactivity rate rises to 33.7 percent (+0.1 points).
Comparing the September-November 2024 quarter with the previous quarter (June-August), there is an increase in the number of employed people by 0.2 percent (+49 thousand).
The growth in employment, observed in the quarterly comparison, is associated with a decrease in job seekers (-8.4%, or -136 thousand) and an increase in the inactive (+0.9%, or +115 thousand).
As of November 2024, the number of employed people exceeds that of November 2023 by 1.4% (+328 thousand units); the increase involves men, women, and those aged 35 years and older, while there is a decrease for those aged 15-34. The employment rate in one year rises by 0.5 percentage points.
Compared with November 2023, the number of job seekers decreases (-23.9%, or -459 thousand) and the number of inactive 15-64 year olds increases (+2.6%, or +323 thousand).
