Epstein Files, explosive documents on Trump and cover up collapse

by Stefano Vaccara

NEW YORK (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – If someone thought that from the Epstein Files could no longer emerge anything really new, the last hours have definitively denied this illusion. The containment strategy implemented by the Trump administration and the Justice Department led by Pam Bondi, with partial publications, obscured documents and intermittent releases, is producing the opposite effect: do not close the case, but reopen it with a political and institutional impact that is also overwhelming the Republican Party.

The new tranche of documents related to the investigation on Jeffrey Epstein – published, removed without explanations and then restored – caused further portions of the wall of cover up erected by the White House to collapse. It is no longer just a question of transparency and animation of American investigative journalism finally resurrected: the node has become openly legal and political. The law passed by Congress imposed the full release of documents by December 19, with only exceptions for the protection of victims. The respect for that law today is clearly under discussion. And it is precisely on this point that the internal fracture of the conservative front grows.

It is no longer just the Democrats to speak of violation of federal law: Also several Republicans accuse the Justice Department of betraying Congressional mandate. The promise of a “instalments” publication in the coming weeks increasingly appears as a dilatory manoeuvre to gain time and reduce the political impact of revelations. In the meantime, the content of the newly created files makes it increasingly difficult to argue that “there is nothing relevant.” Among the most shocking documents there is a letter written by Epstein in the summer of 2019 by the New York prison in Larry Nassar, the former doctor of the American gymnastics national, sentenced to 176 years in prison for sexual abuse on at least 256 athletes, many of which are minors. In the letter – which has a postmark dated August 13, 2019, three days after the death of Epstein – the paedophile financier makes explicit reference to the President of the United States, without ever mentioning it directly: “We share one thing: our love and our concern for young women… Our president also shares our love for young and attractive girls… Life is not right.” The missive also contains a disturbing passage that seems to allude to the suicide of Epstein, which occurred on August 10, 2019 in the cell of the Metropolitan Correctional Center: “Dear L.N., as you know, I took the shortcut to go home. Good luck!”.

The fact that the envelope of the letter rewrites the stamp of August 13 – therefore after the official death of Epstein – adds a further layer of ambiguity to an already charged affair of unresolved questions. In parallel, the documents issued by the Department of Justice confirm and aggravate what has already emerged on personal relationships between Epstein and Donald Trump. An internal email from January 2020, sent by an assistant prosecutor of the southern district of New York, reports that Trump would travel on the private jet of Epstein “many times as much as he was previously known.” The records indicate at least eight flights between 1993 and 1996. In four of these flights there would also be Ghislaine Maxwell, then sentenced to 20 years in prison for child sexual traffic. In a 1993 flight, according to the same email, Trump and Epstein are the only two passengers. In another, the two would be accompanied by a person of 20 years. On other trips, Trump appears together with his then wife Marla Maples, daughter Tiffany and son Eric. Here too it is necessary to remember that Trump has never been charged with crimes related to Epstein. But the central question remains the attempt to prevent the whole picture from being made public.

The institutional paradox is now evident: even if the cover up in place should set up a violation of the law approved by Congress, the president may remain personally protected from direct criminal consequences. In fact, the Supreme Court ruled that a President cannot be prosecuted for acts carried out in the exercise of his duties. His collaborators, however, yes. Justice Department officials, including Pam Bondi, risk being exposed, unless a prior grace signed by Trump himself. A move, this, highly risky. Trump often changes his mind about those who consider “fair” and who not enough. The history of trumpism is full of faithful sacrificed when they become politically bulky. The calculation, therefore of those who are violating the law to protect the White House, is anything but safe. In an attempt to move the attention, the president has liquidated the Epstein case as a “distraction” compared to the economic successes of his administration, citing growth figures above expectations. But the tactic of “retarding, retarding, delaying” is not working. Every new partial release, every document covered in black, every sudden removal from the Department of Justice website strengthens the suspicion that you are trying to earn time to dilute, if not clean up, the most compromising information.

As it happened more than half a century ago with the Watergate, it is not only what happened to threaten the presidency, but the attempt to hide it. If this dynamic is to be consolidated, the Epstein scandal is likely to become the most serious case of cover-ups since Nixon, with potentially devastating consequences not only for Trump. The “bombs” hidden in the Epstein Files too long kept secrets – even from the administration of Joe Biden, you should investigate this – are beginning to explode really. And this time, neither good macroeconomic data nor conspiracy charges will stop the shockwave. Maybe only a war could..
