EU, Meloni “We want to defend our external borders.”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “The fact that these nations are here together to talk about how to address the major issues shows that we have realized that the world has changed and we can now address the challenges before us. This initiative is very valuable and we should repeat it in the future. There are several challenges for the EU, but two in particular. One is citizen security and defense. We all need to do more to ensure that the pillar of NATO is strengthened because it remains the cornerstone of security and defense. We have to be able not only to look to the eastern flank, but also to other places.” So said Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during the final press conference at the North-South Summit in Saariselka, Lapland. “Security is also something else and it means a more effective policy of cooperation. Then,” the premier added, “there is the issue of immigration, which perhaps led to a debate that in my opinion was not right. Many people use immigration as an extortion tool. We want to defend our external borders and we do not want to allow those, such as Russia or criminal organizations, who want to undermine our security.”
