ROMA (ITALPRESS) – This morning, in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, Pope Leo XIV received in audience the delegation of the Conservative Group to the European Parliament. The Holy Father addressing those present during the meeting, said among other things: “I gladly associate myself with the appeal of my recent predecessors that European identity can be understood and promoted only in relation to its Jewish-Christian roots. All benefit from the contribution that the members of the Christian communities have made and continue to make for the good of European society. Just remember some of the important developments of Western civilization, in particular the cultural treasures of its imposing cathedrals, art and sublimation music, and the progress of science, not to mention the growth and spread of universities. These developments create an intrinsic link between Christianity and European history, a story that should be kept and celebrated. In particular, I think of the rich ethical principles and patterns of thought that constitute the intellectual heritage of Christian Europe.”.
European MPs led by the Conservative co-presidents, Nicola Procaccini and Patryk Jaki, the head of the delegation of Brothers of Italy in Brussels, Carlo Fidanza, together with the vice-presidents of the European Parliament, Antonella Sberna and Roberts Zile, gave the Pope the declaration of Subiaco on the principles of conservatism. “It was an honor for us to be received by his Holiness, sharing with him the value of defending the Christian roots of Europe, a fundamental leap for European identity and its future development,” said Nicola Procaccini and Carlo Fidanza. The Pope gave a blessed rosary to each of the European parliamentarians present.
