BRUSSELS (BELGIUM) (ITALPRESS) – Today the European Youth Week 2026 takes place throughout Europe, which will take place until May 1 and will bring together young people, organisations and institutions in a week dedicated to the celebration of youth engagement. The initiative is part of the action of the European Commission to integrate the voice of young people in the elaboration of EU policies.
About a thousand young people took part in the inaugural event in Brussels, opened by a video message from Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament. Glenn Micallef, Commissioner for Intergenerational Equity, Youth, Culture and Sport, took part in opening and comparing with young citizens and representatives of the Member States and European institutions.
This year’s edition will focus on solidarity and equity, with particular attention to social inclusion and equal opportunities for young people. The events can be consulted through an interactive map on the European Portal for young people. In addition, they will offer a platform for dialogue between young people and EU decision makers, integrating dialogues with young people on current political initiatives with European Commissioners.
The European Youth Week will also include an event dedicated to the celebration of 30 years of EU volunteering, from the European Voluntary Service to the current European Solidarity Corps. “Young people are the heart of Europe. The European Youth Week is dedicated to them: to their dreams, their ideas and their creativity – said Commissioner Micallef -. It is an opportunity to offer them new opportunities to make their voice heard and help shape the future of Europe. For some, this is the beginning of a path towards active citizenship. In 2026, the Week will once again reaffirm the importance of listening to young people and ensuring that solidarity and equity remain at the heart of our policies.”.
