F1, Bahrain test: Russell scores the best third ahead of Plates and Leclerc

SAKHIR (BAHRAIN) (ITALPRESS) – Mercedes opens the second week in Bahrain as it had closed the first. On the fourth day of the Formula 1 test on the Sakhir circuit, the Brackley stable is still under control. Last Friday it was Kimi Antonelli who signed the best time, turning 1’33′′669. They fell five days later by George Russell, the fastest on Wednesday in 1’33′′′459. Second strength is the McLaren by Oscar Piastri, while in third place, with the best chrono of the morning, there is a Charles Leclerc who has left a profitable session with Ferrari before leaving the place to Lewis Hamilton, stopped for precaution an hour from the end of the day and returned for the last 40 minutes of the session.

Before getting behind the wheel, the British spoke with great optimism at the press conference: “Now that I’ve been in the team for a year I’ve set myself much better – said the Red driver – I’m excited, they all presented themselves with a very good mentality. There was a very positive change.”.

“Are you optimistic? I always try to trust in the beginning of the season. During this winter I had to leave behind everything that had happened last season. I tried to rebuild everything and get to today feeling good. The performance of the car so far really impresses me. Working with new generation cars is a completely different experience. We are trying to solve everything from zero and real time,” said Hamilton.

Statements found echo in those of Maranello’s main team, Frederic Vasseur: “We are focused on ourselves, adapting the machine to new regulations, so far I would say good work, reliability has been good.”.

New episode, however, regarding the motor case, which sees Mercedes involved mainly. The F1 Commission, meeting in Bahrain, decided that the members of the Power Unit Advisory Committee will vote on the introduction of a warm control of the compression ratio of power units, which in case of probable vote in favour would enter into force next August.
