Farina “Snam keeps the bar straight on decarbonization”

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – “In Snam, sustainability is not just reporting. It is a strategic business lever. And like innovation it is functional to hit the transition goals.” These are the words of Claudio Farina, Chief Strategy and Technology Officer of Snam, today in Milan for the RCS Sustainability Report 2025 Award, where he collected the recognition obtained by the TSO in the reporting activity dedicated to sustainability issues.

Speaking on the sidelines of the award presentation, Farina emphasized the Group’s commitment on this front: “We have anticipated the changes envisaged by the reporting regulations and we are also relaunching our commitment thanks to generative AI, which is very useful in comparing our reporting work with the financial statements of companies similar to ours. You grow not only by cultivating your own specificities but also by looking around.”

Also recalled was the publication of Snam’s first Transition Plan, which saw the light of day at the end of last year: “From 2022 to date, we have reduced direct CO2 emissions by 28%,” Farina explained in view of the Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero targets at 2040 and 2050, “but we are also working on the active protection of biodiversity, from an ‘all round’ perspective. In the Transition Plan, on all this, we have indicated short-, medium- and long-term targets (and operational levers to achieve them), and some of these targets, such as the increase in sustainable finance needed to support the 12.4 billion investments planned by 2029, we have already achieved, ahead of schedule.”

In a framework in which crises and wars compete for resources and attention to the great challenge of decarbonization, Snam aims not to fail in its commitments: “We know,” Farina concluded, “that, due to the current international economic situation, sustainability is flanked by many other priorities, no less strategic, and that some major investment funds have recently toned down their orientation towards the ESG world. However, adopting a pragmatic and science-based approach, in Snam we have decided to keep the rudder straight, confirming the objectives on climate and nature and, above all, trying to involve all stakeholders in our value chain.”
