In February 2025, according to Istat’s preliminary estimates, inflation accelerates slightly to 1.7 percent (same level as in October 2023) from 1.5 percent in January. This development is mainly affected by the dynamics of energy prices, which returned positive (+0.6 percent from -0.7 percent in January) and, in particular, that of the regulated component (+31.5 percent from +27.5 percent). In the food sector, prices of processed and unprocessed products accelerate, as do those of the so-called “shopping cart” (+2.2% from +1.7%). On the other hand, prices of some services, including recreational and cultural services, transportation and communications, slow down. In February, core inflation remains stable at +1.8 percent.
