MARANELLO (MODENA) (ITALPRESS) – The task is tough but the Cavallino intends to leave Abu Dhabi with no regrets. The curtain is about to come down on the Formula One season, and at the last Gp on the calendar Ferrari is in the running to win its 17th Constructors’ title, at the end of what is still the best year since the advent of the hybrid era in 2014. This is not the first time the team has come in the running for the title at the last race of the season in the UAE: in 2010 the drivers’ title was up for grabs and the day had the bitter taste of defeat. The precedents at the Middle Eastern track are also not favorable, as Yas Marina is, among the circuits on which Ferrari has never won, the one with the most races under its belt. This weekend, however, the Rossa wants to try to dispel this taboo even though it will be very complicated to make up the 21 points that separate it from McLaren in the standings. “For the first time since Formula 1 entered its hybrid era we managed to get to play for a title at the last race,” stressed team principal Fred Vasseur, “This is an important achievement and this weekend we will try to do even more. “Of course, we have to be realistic, we are mathematically in the running but the title is very difficult to achieve because, even if we were to finish first and second it might not be enough, as McLaren boasts a 21-point lead and could settle for third and fifth place,” Vasseur recalls, “Challenges however are in Ferrari’s DNA and so we want to try. The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will be the last with the Cavallino for Carlos Sainz before his move to Williams, and the Spaniard – who will hand over his single-seater to Arthur Leclerc in the first free practice session – wants to close in style an adventure that has lasted the space of four seasons and that has yielded him and the team four victories, six pole positions and 24 podiums. “We have prepared thoroughly for this appointment, we know that qualifying will play a key role and that our car is better performers in the race,” Vasseur added, “Charles, Carlos and the whole team will give every last drop of sweat to try to bring home the title. – photo Ipa Agency -(ITALPRESS).
