First official meeting between Ambassador Marrapodi and the President of the General Assembly of the UN Baerbock

NEW YORK (USA) (ITALPRESS) – The Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations, Ambassador Giorgio Marrapodi, had a first official meeting with the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Annalena Baerbock.

Marrapodi congratulated Baerbock on the dynamism of his presidency and expressed Italy’s continued willingness to contribute to the process of improving the working mechanisms of the United Nations system even within the UN80 Initiative. Happily with our country for the adoption of the resolution on the Olympic Truce proposed by Italy and adopted by consensus with 165 co-sponsored by the General Assembly on 19 November 2025, President Baerbock confirmed his participation in the opening ceremony of Milan-Cortina 2026, which will be held on 6 February near the San Siro Stadium in Milan.

Ambassador Marrapodi had previously participated in the meeting convened at the Glass Palace right from Baerbock to read the UN official call to stop the conflicts in obsessive to the tradition of Olympic Truce, which began today 30 January. In his speech to the UN, the President of the General Assembly, among other things, wanted to emphasize that the Games of Milan-Cortina 2026 will be configured as the Winter Olympics with the highest female participation ever recorded.
