ROME (ITALPRESS) – Roma did not shine but got three very important points in the Europa League by beating Dinamo Kiev, redeeming the defeat against Elfsborg and generally breaking a three-game winless streak. Deciding the challenge with the Ukrainians was a penalty converted by Ukrainian Dovbyk himself.
Juric has to do without Mancini and Soulè, stopped by fever, and so Celik is lowered in the three-man defense, with Zalewski playing the right outside of a midfield that in the middle sees the return of Le Fèe as a starter. The Giallorossi attempt a brilliant approach to the match, immediately taking control of the game and trying to sting with Pisilli. But the intensity wanes as the minutes pass, in the face of a Dynamo that systematically deploys at least eight men to guard the area. A flash is needed and it comes with Baldanzi, who is good at tunneling past Mykhavko, being held up: it’s a penalty, which is converted by Dovbyk at 23′. The goal did not change the script of the match, which saw Roma look for spaces and the host formation try to strike on the counterattack, especially with Guerrero.
The Dynamo had a great chance in 34′ after a badly lost ball by Le Fèe: Guerrero opens for Tymchyk, who controls with his chest and unloads a powerful diagonal shot that goes out by inches. A few minutes later, Guerrero gets rid of N’Dicka with a follow-up control and engages Svilar, who pushes it away with his feet. The Kiev team also found the goal shortly after, but Voloshyn was clearly offside. The resumption opened with N’Dicka’s spurt off a corner kick, with Dovbyk being unresponsive in his deflection. Roma’s maneuvering continued to be slow and unspread, with the flanks little used. Dybala and Pellegrini also came on at 68′, but the Giallorossi trembled with an empty exit by Svilar on a corner kick and a Mikhailenko header that finished on the bottom. Shomurodov twice came close to scoring, first with a personal cue and a shot on the turn that went just wide, then clumsily wasting an opportunity born of a Pellegrini-Dybala triangle, sending it wide from a few steps with the goal wide open. A goal that would have spared the Giallorossi a breathless finish, but the guests failed to create any danger and the result did not change anymore.
