Five Euro NCAP stars for the new Mazda CX-80

ROME (ITALPRESS) – The new Mazda CX-80 has received the top five-star rating in Euro NCAP safety tests. Mazda’s new seven-seat flagship SUV scored 92 percent in adult safety (Adult Occupancy) and 88 percent for child safety (Child Occupancy). It also scored 84 percent in the area of protection of Vulnerable Road Users such as pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists. The Mazda CX-80’s outstanding score of 92 percent in adult safety includes top marks in the Side and Rear Impact tests, with a satisfactory level of protection recognized in the Frontal Impact test with full-width rigid barrier. In both the Side Barrier Impact and the more severe Side Pole Impact, the protection of all critical body areas was excellent, leading to the highest score in this part of the evaluation. When it comes to child safety, Mazda’s new SUV scored top marks in both Front and Side Impact for performance in crash tests based on six- and ten-year-old children. The correct installation of child seats – CRS Installation Check – also received top marks, leading to an excellent combined score of 88 percent. The new CX-80 scored an impressive 84% in the vulnerable road user category. The response toward pedestrians of the autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system both in front and behind the car was good, as was its performance in tests of reaction to cyclists, including protection against “dooring” (the sudden opening of a door at a cyclist approaching from behind). The full range of driver-supportive i-Activsense safety technologies gave the CX-80 a consistent 79 percent rating for Safety Assist. The car achieved the highest rating in the lane support (Lane Support) category for Emergency Lane Keeping, Lane Keep Assist, and Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems. The performance of the Autonomous Braking System (AEB Car-to-Car) also received an excellent rating including numerous aspects related to approaching other cars as well as turning while crossing the path of an oncoming car. Also contributing to the five-star rating was Mazda’s Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture, which underlies the CX-80’s longitudinal front-engine, rear-wheel-drive mechanical layout and its excellent driving dynamics. The rear-dominant permanent all-wheel drive system combines the stability and traction of an AWD with the neutral cornering characteristics of a rear-wheel drive. Equipped with three rows of seats, the new CX-80 is the most spacious car in Mazda’s European range. Improved safety measures, new technologies for a greater connection between car and driver, and driver-centric design have resulted in Mazda’s latest flagship representing the ultimate expression of Crafted in Japan, where the craftsmanship of Takumi designers and artisans blends with the technical skills of engineers. The wide dashboard and center console that embraces the cabin reinforce the spaciousness of the interior by giving a sense of comfort and control of all the dedicated driver instrumentation. The new CX-80 thus combines a stylish design anchored in Japanese aesthetics with exceptional versatility of on-board accommodation offering superior technology and on-road performance typical of every Mazda.
