ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Presented, at the Salone d’Onore del Coni in Rome, the Encyclopedic Dictionary of Sport Psychology. The work aims to focus the athlete in its complexity, enhancing the relationship between mind, performance and interdisciplinary culture. The volume, edited by Manuela Benzi and Stefano Tamorri, was born from a cultural and scientific path developed over time, starting from a previous reflection on the link between neuroscience and sport, with the aim of deepening the knowledge that connect mental dimension and movement. In this context, the dictionary is running to become a new reference point for those working in mental preparation, training, health and sports performance. “We must face sports in all its declinations and psychology is part of it. The book will be a useful tool to provide useful information to coaches, to train them and to keep them updated on the evolution of the world. Psychology is a delicate subject and requires preparation and professionalism”, the intervention of the Vice-President of the Coni and number one Fise Marco Di Paola.
The text proposes a reading of the athlete that goes beyond the only performance of the technical gesture, returning a broader and more articulated profile, in which cognitive, emotional, biological and experiential components contribute to the construction of the performance. Particular attention is paid to the processes of perception, decoding, decision and programming, considered central elements of each high-level sports response. “Psysology is a very important aspect of the sports world. It serves scientific knowledge of the world of sports, but also an exchange of interdisciplinary skills. There is a need for medical knowledge and psychological support, the Encyclopaedic Dictionary is part of a path of institutionalization of psychology in the world of sport”, says Maurizio Casasco, president of the Italian Medical Federation and European president of the Efmsa Medical Sport Federation. The Encyclopaedic Dictionary of Sport Psychology also looks to the world of occupations and addresses sports psychologists, sports doctors, coaches, managers, athletic trainers, physiotherapists and nutritionists, in the sign of a shared culture, integrated and increasingly oriented to the dialogue between different skills.
