Fonseca “With Roma special match, I want Milan consistent”

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – “They have a great team with good players and a great coach who has won a lot. Playing against them is always special for me, I have friends there but as soon as we enter the field it will be like facing all the others. We will want to win, I only have this thought.” So said Paulo Fonseca, AC Milan coach, in a press conference ahead of the match against Roma scheduled for tomorrow night at the San Siro. “We thought we could have Pulisic, he is fine because of the injury he had, but in the last two days he had a problem with his ankle,” revealed the Portuguese coach. “He will not be there tomorrow. Loftus is better and I think he can be there next week, Morata is ready. Bennacer has been training but does not have the physical condition to play 90 minutes, but he will play. Then Musah and Leao who are a little late. Let’s see if we can have them for the Super Cup.” Rossoneri and Giallorossi did not have an overly exciting first half of the season: “Challenge between disappointments? No, not for me,” stressed the Portuguese coach. “I respect those who think so, but it is not so. The end of the championship is far away. Then if we make a comparison with other teams, I think to speak only of Milan and Roma as disappointing is too much.” On Theo Hernandez: “We have been training him these days, he needs to recover physically. He is aware that he can do much better. These last two days have been positive, let’s see how he will be later on. I am positive, I repeat.” Few indications given by Fonseca on the starting lineup, among the doubts is the one related to Jimenez’s position: “Leao is stronger in one-on-one than Jimenez who makes more crosses, assists. He will play tomorrow for sure, we’ll see if at fullback or outside. The mood of the team is good, the atmosphere is great. I can only be more positive after the last training sessions. I hope to play three games next week, I’m not thinking about other things.” In January, the Rossoneri are expected to face many important and cricial challenges, including Super Cup, league and Champions League: “In 2025 I want to see a team with a more consistent attitude. The month of January will not be decisive, but it’s 30 full days with so many matches and we have to reason match by match, never have I reasoned strategically. By consistent I mean a team that has to play every game the same way. When I talk about attitude I am talking about this. When we play with big teams we are attentive, when we face smaller teams it is not so. Today we are here talking about a Milan that is not well, but if we had two more points from the games against Genoa and Cagliari maybe we would be talking about something else. But this happened because the team is not consistent in dealing with opponents. Is it a tactical issue? No. Is it a technical issue? No. Is it a now issue? No. We are trying to do everything we can do. Have we tried everything? No, because these moments keep happening. It’s a big challenge. I’m sure we will find the right path.” Finally, on the market: “We are thinking about so many situations. The company is careful. We will do things with consciousness and awareness of what is best for the team. I am very focused on Roma and the Super Cup.” There is talk of Juve’s interest in Tomori. “This is news to me, but these are normal things. If there is talk, we will talk. He is a great professional. Whether he plays or not he works the same way. His attitude has never changed and for me these players are very important. I cannot say whether he will play more or less, but for me Tomori is important.”- Photo: Ipa Agency -(ITALPRESS).
