The distorted use of this instrument can cause aberrant phenomena, which can cause enormous sufferings of physical and mental nature in children and adolescents destined to mark their lives short, medium and long term”. Thus the President of the House, Lorenzo Fontana, in a message addressed to the Fondazione Il Phone Azzurro on the occasion of the International Conference “High-Level Meeting on Child Dignity in the Artificial Intelligence Era” in Rome. “Another aspect that cannot be neglected is that of social and emotional interactions. In this respect, it is of great concern that a growing number of young people turn to artificial intelligence to have someone to talk to,” he adds.
“This use of digital resources is seriously questioning the centrality of the human element in the sphere of interpersonal relationships. It also claims to generate forms of dependence on the virtual environment, with a contextual loss of the ability to establish and cultivate affective ties in the real world. In such a context, the Institutions are called to promote in every venue appropriate moments of confrontation and awareness aimed at strengthening the critical sense and knowledge of the dangers of the web by boys and girls”, concludes Fontana.
