TOKYO (GIAPPONE) (ITALPRESS) – The President of the Italian Medicines Agency Robert Nisticò has led a delegation, also composed by the Councilman of the Board of Directors Emanuele Monti and Armando Magrelli of the International Relations Office, on an institutional mission in Japan. Two bilateral meetings represented the focus of the visit, historically the first in Japan: with the leadership of the Japanese Ministry of Health, a thorough comparison of national health policies, in a country that has made longevity a pillar of its welfare system; with the Directorate-General of the Regulatory Agency of Japanese Drugs (PMDA – Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency) and the President Yasuhiro Fujiwara: a particular strategic dialogue The initiative has seen the support of the Italian Embassy in Tokyo and has had the objective to promote the comparison on strategic issues for public health and to promote the sharing of good practices for the benefit of citizens. “In the course of bilateral meetings I had the opportunity to confront the leaders of the health institutions of Japan, starting a constructive dialogue on crucial issues, such as research and innovation, longevity and management of chronicities, politherapy in elderly patients, the use of IA in the regulatory framework and the sustainability of health systems – said the President of AIFA Robert Nisticò -. These are areas in which Italy and Japan, united by a universal health system, share common challenges and with respect to which it is essential to strengthen the comparison and exchange of experiences. In an increasingly complex global context, cooperation between institutions is a key element in ensuring access to safe, effective and innovative care.” “Japan has adopted innovative policies to cope with the ageing of the population and the consequent greater costs that have allowed to contain pharmaceutical spending while guaranteeing rapid access to innovation, representing a model to be deepened in the field of cooperation between our two countries”, said the representative of the Ministry of Economy in AIFA Emanuele Monti.
