Ford Ranger Plug-in Hybrid Arrives

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Ford Pro is setting new standards for plug-in hybrid pickups with the unveiling of the Ranger PHEV at IAA Transportation in Hanover. The new model makes no compromises and offers the same features in terms of cargo capacity, versatility and off-road performance typical of the Ranger. These are now joined by the ability to drive in electric mode, thus strengthening Ford Pro’s leadership in the European pickup segment and further expanding the range of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. With up to 690 Nm of torque, the highest of any Ranger currently in production, and an electric range of more than 45 km, the latest model of the iconic pickup gets new features. The Ranger Plug-In Hybrid also introduces a more powerful version of Pro Power Onboard, enabling powering or charging devices and work tools using up to 6.9 kW directly from the vehicle, without the need for an external generator. Ford Pro is presenting the new model at IAA Transportation in a limited edition, Stormtrak trim exclusive to the Plug-In Hybrid, in addition to the Wildtrak and XLT. “The new Ranger PHEV offers the benefits of electrification without sacrificing the versatility and cargo capacity that have made the Ranger an icon in Europe. We have further improved our first Plug-In Hybrid pickup so that it can continue to be suitable as a work tool, adding comfort, connected services and the possibility of driving electrically,” said Marco Buraglio, Ford Commercial Vehicles Italy Director. The Ranger PHEV will be produced in Silverton, South Africa, and first deliveries are expected from spring 2025. The new model joins the current diesel-powered Ranger range available in Europe, making the pickup even better suited to the diverse needs of its users. The new 2.3 PHEV powertrain combines Ford’s 2.3-liter EcoBoost gasoline engine and 10-speed automatic transmission with a 75 kW electric motor and 11.8 kWh (usable) battery. The resulting 690 Nm of torque is the highest of any production Ranger, and at 279 hp the PHEV model produces more power than a Ranger 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel. The battery takes less than four hours to recharge, using 16-amp single-phase charging that provides more than 45 miles of range in electric mode. The Ranger PHEV offers the same performance that has Ranger diesel- and gasoline-powered vehicles so passionate about. Those who choose Ranger PHEV can continue to carry a payload of up to one ton, tow up to 3,500 kg benefit from the off-road safety offered by the advanced e-4WD system. The electric motor allows the Ranger PHEV to operate the vehicle in zero-emission mode, being able to choose when and how to use battery power with Auto EV, EV Now, EV Later or EV Charge modes. Other features include regenerative braking and additional torque when towing, moving heavier loads, or tackling challenging terrain off-road. Ford has also revised the suspension calibration for optimal comfort and safe performance on and off-road, taking into account the chassis type and weight distribution of the Ranger PHEV. Where available, Ford Pro Charging solutions will allow charging to be scheduled overnight to access cheaper rates. Overall, Ford expects that this hybrid powertrain will provide reduced fuel consumption compared to the more powerful V6 diesel engine. Pro Power Onboard technology offers the ability to work while simultaneously powering high-draw tools and equipment, for example on a construction site, without the need for a generator. The system provides 2.3 kW as standard, which can go up to 6.9 kW by ordering a specific option, with two 15-amp outlets in the body and 3.45 kW available from each outlet to meet the needs of the most complex instrumentation. The Stormtrak launch edition offers a wealth of standard equipment, including unique Stormtrak design elements with 18-inch alloy wheels, honeycomb grille, fender vents, and decal kits. Matrix LED headlights, flexible roof rack system, Pro Trailer Backup Assist and 360-degree camera. New exclusive color for the Stormtrak, Chill Grey, which joins Agate Black. Luxurious cabin with 10-speaker B&O audio system and exclusive interior materials. Like every Ford Pro vehicle, the Ranger PHEV is supported by a full suite of service, charging, software and flexible financing to simplify the user experience, improve productivity and reduce operating costs. The FordPass app makes it easy to monitor vehicle health by sending notifications. For companies with larger fleets and dedicated fleet managers, the right tool to optimize productivity and reduce vehicle downtime is Ford Pro Telematics.
