Foti “Credible and stable government, now speed up Pnrr spending”

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – “I joined a ministry that was led by a personality of undoubted ability and practicality. You have to be very careful: issues, especially when it comes to European funds, require special attention. You know that your work will be carefully scrutinized, both at the commitment stage and at the expenditure verification stage.” This was said in an interview with “Corriere della Sera” by Tommaso Foti, who has been minister for European Affairs, Pnrr and Cohesion Policies since a few days, replacing Raffaele Fitto, now vice president of the EU Commission. The fact that Giorgia Meloni kept the delegation for the South for herself “is a precise choice of a political nature. To confirm and strongly emphasize the government’s commitment to the South with her own person.” “I am examining all the most significant and most urgent dossiers, by the end of the year we have to finalize the letter to send to the EU Commission to obtain the seventh installment, which by the way is substantial, about 18.2 billion euros. And therefore, we need to verify that the 67 overall targets are met,” Foti adds.
“I would say that we are at a very good point. I’m optimistic that we can achieve them all. And now we are at an important moment on the front of reporting on the expenditures made,” assures Foti. And the Court of Auditors? “It has made its report on the data it has, in an undoubtedly correct way. There are situations that can improve. And I believe that Minister Giorgetti’s decree that will allow funding up to 90 percent will be decisive. It will prevent municipalities from going into a cash crunch. By simplifying reporting, it will be possible to dispose of resources much faster than in the past. Because next year will have to mark a decidedly sustained pace of spending compared to previous years. But this is physiological: in a work there is the design phase, the procurement phase and the execution phase. And it is normal for spending to follow related rhythms,” continues Foti, according to whom “this government enjoys a credibility and stability that is difficult to question. Of course, with the dialectic proper to the political forces that make it up. That too is normal. But the point is that there is a majority that when it has to express itself, it votes unanimously. Unlike an opposition that often has more positions than the parties that compose it,” he concludes.
