Fulco Pratesi died at 90, founded WWF Italy

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Fulco Pratesi, 90 years old five months ago, founder of WWF Italy and pioneer of the environmental movement in Italy passed away today in Rome. This was announced by the WWF, which “mourns the passing of its founding father and emotionally embraces the Pratesi family: his children Isabella, Carlo Alberto, Francesco and Olympia and all his grandchildren.”
Born in Rome in 1934, an architect, journalist, author, designer, founder of WWF Italy, of which he was a longtime president as well as a living example of active environmentalism, Fulco Pratesi was the guide for an entire generation of naturalists. He was also a parliamentarian from 1995 to 1997 with the Greens. In 2020, the University of Palermo awarded him an Honorary Degree in Biodiversity and Environmental Biology. He was honorary president of WWF Italy and editor in chief of the historic magazine Panda since its founding. Fundamental was his contribution to the definition and approval of fundamental laws for the protection of Italian nature, from Law 157 on fauna to that on parks in 1991.
“His action, personally and through the Panda association, has been fundamental for the protection of nature in Italy. Today I feel, together with all the people of WWF, an immense void: we have lost a father and an irreplaceable source of wisdom. We say goodbye to him moved and infinitely sad, but also with a certainty: the WWF will continue to honor his memory every day, pursuing with conviction his own ideals.
Fulco will always be with us,” comments Luciano Di Tizio, president of WWF Italy.
