APELDOORN (HOLLAND) (ITALPRESS) – First Italian medal at the European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn, Netherlands. Second place for Mattia Furlani in the long jump, the Italian climbed on the podium thanks to the measure of 8.12. First on the fifth jump, the Olympic bronze medalist in Paris 2024 was mocked by a single centimeter by Bulgarian Bozhidar Saraboyukov (left as many as 24 centimeters at the time of the take-off). Third was Spain’s Lester Lescay (8.12).
Off the podium two years ago in Istanbul, this is his first indoor continental medal, the second of his career after winning silver at the world championships in Glasgow last year. There was no shortage of bitterness: “I’m sorry because I worked so well,” the 19-year-old Lazio athlete, a member of the Padova Fiamme Oro, told the microphones of Rai Sport, “I did my race, I could aspire to much more, I’ve been fighting since yesterday with the run-up, but that’s how it is, the projects are long-term. If I don’t change the run-up now, I won’t change it again, it’s still an international medal. I couldn’t wait to get on the platform, I simply did my race, I’m sorry, but you work on it, there will be a World Cup, an outdoor World Cup, these are stages. Usually with 8.12 I warm up.”
LE ALTRE GARE

Technically my jumps today were decent, but difficult was the tension of the first round, with only three attempts. Tomorrow there are six for all, you can dare and find the measures even if some details don’t go. I am much more serene than other times.”
In the triple jump, Andrea Dallavalle (16.87) and Andy Diaz (16.74) snatched a pass to the finals thanks to a single jump. Tomorrow it’s back on the track, in the morning space for qualifying, from 6:40 pm the triple jump final where Italy can go to medal, at 8 pm space for the high jump, with Matteo Sioli and Manuel Lando on the platform.
