LA MALBAIE (CANADA) (ITALPRESS) – The final document that emerged from the G7 Foreign Ministerial in Canada “sends a clear message in favor of peace in Ukraine and the Middle East.” This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani in a press point at the conclusion of the work. “(The document) reiterates the importance of the territorial unity of Ukraine, reiterates the importance of having a just peace, calls for the release of political prisoners and also the return of Ukrainian children who are in Russia. There is great concern, it is written in the document, about the Russian bombings against the civilian population, but we also talk about a positive perspective for the Middle East, we support all efforts to free the Israeli hostages,” Tajani said.

“During my speech during the debate on Venezuela I reiterated the importance of making every effort to free our compatriot Trentini,” he added on another of the hottest topics. “I remember that yesterday during my speech during the debate on Venezuela I reiterated the importance of making every effort to free our compatriot Trentini, who is detained without having the possibility of being visited by our consul in a prison in Venezuela. I mentioned this again today at the meeting with Secretary of State (U.S.) Rubio.”

La nota congiunta

“We called for the release of all hostages and the return of the remains of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza to their loved ones. We reiterated our support for the resumption of unimpeded humanitarian aid to Gaza and a permanent ceasefire.” That’s according to the joint statement that sealed the G7 Foreign Ministerial in Canada. “We stressed the imperative of a political horizon for the Palestinian people, achieved through a negotiated settlement to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that meets the legitimate needs and aspirations of both peoples and promotes comprehensive peace, stability and prosperity in the Middle East. We have noted serious concern about the growing tensions and hostilities in the West Bank and have called for de-escalation,” it further reads.

The statement stressed Israel’s “inherent right to defend itself in accordance with international law” and that Hamas “can play no role in Gaza’s future” and must never again pose a threat to Israel. “We expressed our support for the people of Syria and Lebanon as both countries work toward a peaceful and stable political future. At this critical time, we reiterated the importance of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and Lebanon. We called unequivocally for the rejection of terrorism in Syria. We strongly condemned the recent escalation of violence in Syria’s coastal regions and called for the protection of civilians and that perpetrators of atrocities be held accountable. We stressed the critical importance of an inclusive, Syrian-led political process. We welcomed the commitment of the Syrian Interim Government to work with the OPCW to eliminate all remaining chemical weapons,” it further reads.

“We stressed that Iran is the main source of regional instability and must never be allowed to develop and acquire a nuclear weapon. We stressed that Iran must now change course, engage in de-escalation, and choose diplomacy. We stressed the threat of Iran’s increasing use of arbitrary detentions and foreign assassination attempts as a tool of coercion,” the G7 ministers finally concluded.
