GENOA (ITALPRESS) – An intense and entertaining draw between Genoa and Cagliari, who under the deluge of Marassi did not go beyond a 2-2 draw in what represented an important junction for the salvation fight. Two penalties for Cagliari, scored by Marin and Piccoli, opened and closed the scoring, interspersed with Genoa goals by Frendrup and Miretti on the day of Vieira’s debut on the Ligurian bench for the exonerated Gilardino. The episode that opened the game came after seven minutes of play, with Thorsby’s hand touch on Mina’s header and the penalty kick later awarded by Sozza and scored by Marin. Cagliari’s lead would last only four minutes, however, with Genoa finding the equalizer on a change of pitch that favored a winning insertion into the box by Frendrup, who was good at punishing Sherri with his left flat. There was great balance and liveliness at Marassi, with Genoa again making itself dangerous at 21′, on Badelj’s feed that put Miretti in front of the goal, not cold in serving Thorsby with the goal unguarded but clumsy in his shot that finished wide. In the twilight of the first half, it is Cagliari that comes back forward, on Piccoli’s outlet and service for Gaetano, who inside the area controls and kicks diagonally, finding a nice save in the dive by Leali. We go to halftime with the score 1-1, and at the start of the second half it was Gaetano again who made himself dangerous, finding himself in one-on-one with Leali but kicking too predictably for the Genoa goalkeeper, who blocked on the dive. A decisive episode for the change of front by the Grifone, who would find the lead at 59′: a breakaway on the right by Thorsby, who got to the back and put in the middle for Miretti, who was good at beating Sherri and making it 2-1 for his team. The end of the match was heated, with Cagliari attempting a siege on a Genoa side that instead tried to break away quickly. In the 85th minute, however, contact in the Genoa area between Martin and Piccoli resulted in another penalty kick in favor of Cagliari, with the Sardinians’ center forward himself taking charge of the shot and making the final 2-2 goal. – Photo Image -(ITALPRESS).
