BERLIN (GERMANY) (ITALPRESS) – The administrative court of Cologne has suspended the definition of “proven extremist” for the German party Alternative fuer Deutschland (AfD).
The Court thus accepted the appeal submitted by urgent procedure by the political force against the definition established in 2025 by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), the German internal intelligence. According to the Cologne court, despite “a strong suspicion” the party cannot be defined with certainty as an extremist right-wing organization and does not unequivocally manifest an anti-institutional tendency.
The administrative judgment is limited to suspending, therefore, any decision on the possible definition of AfD, pending the outcome of the main judicial process which sees oppositions AfD and BfV. However, it was enough for the leader of political force, Alice Weidel, to talk about X of “a great victory not only for the Afd, but also for democracy and the rule of law”
