ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Agostino Ghiglia, a member of the Privacy Guarantor, sent to the editor of Report a distrust against the broadcast, on this evening episode on Rai3, of the service related to his involvement in the procedure that led to the fine for the diffusion of the audio of the phone call between the former Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano and his wife, the journalist Rai Federica Corsini. As one learns, Ghiglia argues that there has been an unlawful acquisition of personal data through the violation of private correspondence, asks for cancellation from social media and non-discrimination on TV.
The service in question is “The Authority of the Guarantor” by Chiara De Luca with the collaboration of Eleonora Numico. “Report returns to the Privacy Authority. Augustine Ghiglia, a member of the College, on the day before the Sanction in Report, went to Via della Scrofa in Rome, in the seat of Fratelli d’Italia. Why?”, you read in a note of the transmission.
LE REAZIONI
“The distrust of Agostino Ghiglia, a member of the Privacy Guarantor, against Report is a very serious fact, an act that represents yet another attempt to silence the free information. We’re censorship. The distrust is the demonstration that one does not want to make known the truth to the Italians starting from the role of FDI and the parties of government in the affair that brought the authority to sanction Report. Today’s warfare is a dangerous precedent: If the journalistic investigations that raise uncomfortable issues can be blocked in advance, it is less an essential part of our control and guarantee system. The Data Controller cannot transform itself into an instrument of intimidation against journalists, Ghiglia and all the leadership of the authority must resign immediately.” So Angelo Bonelli, MP AVS and co-host of Green Europe.
“Let’s give the sender any hypothesis of censorship of the episode of Report tonight, Agostino Ghiglia immediately resigns. It is very serious that a similar request arrives from a member of the Guarantor Authority for Privacy. Not only for days, in the face of this news, Arianna Meloni, sister of Prime Minister Giorgia, did not consider having to say one word but now Ghiglia would be even trying to block the airing of the journalistic investigation that concerns him. We’re facing a very serious matter. When those who are called to watch over the protection of citizens’ rights use their position to hinder freedom of press, the very heart of democracy is struck. The moment has come for a deep reflection on the work of those members of the Privacy Guarantor who interpret their role as a clava of political power. Agostino Ghiglia must take responsibility for his actions and take a step back immediately.” It says in a note the group leader of the M5S in Supervisory committee Rai Dario Caroallo.
“They try us in every way to block Reports. I hope that he will air on Rai Tre tonight, as expected and that the attempt to block the air is vain. How can we trust a Guarantee Authority after anticipation of the Report bet? No, we can’t trust him. Every decision, every provision of the Authority for Privacy will be marked by a shadow: We will no longer know whether the decisions were taken in full transparency and independence, or after consulting with the reference party in this case Brothers of Italy, the party of the President of the Council Giorgia Meloni. The scandal involving Agostino Ghiglia, former member of the National Alliance appointed by the Meloni government, is a watershed. The sanction imposed on Report, the program that has documented abuses of power and opacity of political power, has become today the symbol of a conflict of intolerable interests. And today the same Ghiglia even tries to distrust Reports from the broadcast of the episode, in an attempt to stop the information and put a gag to the public service. As Sigfrido Ranucci denounced, “what tries to make Ghiglia is to put a gag. It is very serious, it is a public service interruption. A guarantee authority must be third, independent, credible. There is nothing here. Those involved must take the consequences: resignation is the only way to return a minimum of trust in institutions and democracy.” So in a note Sandro Ruotolo, Information Manager in the national secretariat of the PD and MEP.
