Giorgetti “No to rhetoric on extra-profits, but everyone’s contribution needed”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “Companies do not do charity, voluntary contributions do not exist. There is what is the guiding star that is Article 53 of the Constitution: everyone is called to contribute according to their possibilities according to the needs of the nation.” This was said by Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, interviewed at a Bloomberg event in Milan. “We appeal to everyone,” he added, “because at this time we will predominantly cut spending, but there will certainly be a competition regarding revenue. There will not be a repeat of the narrative and discussion of bank extra-profits. There will be a contribution call for everyone, not simply for the banks, but reasoned and rational,” he added. “Paradoxically, one could say that with all these wars those who produce weapons are doing particularly well, and again there is a favorable market situation. This is to say that the economy is made in a certain way, it is also determined by exceptional situations, and everyone is called upon to compete, a balanced solution will be found,” the minister explained. For Giorgetti, one should not talk about extra-profits but “tax the right profits, profits, in a correct way.”
