ST.MORITZ (SVIZZERA) (ITALPRESS) – The track in Milan-Cortina starts from St.Moritz. After the first seasons in giant, Sofia Goggia is ready to face the “sue” races, with the Alpine Ski World Cup that stops in Switzerland with two descents (Friday and Saturday) and a super-G (Sunday).
Two specialties in which the 33-year-old Bergamasca aims to make a big voice, considering also the absences of Lara Gut-Behrami and Federica Brignone that last season they took the two cups. “My goal is to return to my highest level, compete with constancy and be competitive every weekend in fast disciplines – says Sofia at the Fis website in view of St.Moritz’s triple appointment – I want to fight for victory when conditions allow it, but above all I want a solid, healthy season that allows me to express myself to the maximum.”.
With the Winter Games of February in the viewfinder and the chance of another Olympic medal after the two downhills (gold in Pyeongchang in 2018 and silver in Beijing four years later), Goggia aims to “improve the efficiency of my skiing, be fast without forcing too much. I’m working on clean lines, a better aerodynamics and stability in key points where races often decide.”.
In this perspective he worked a lot with wide doors “because I think the technique of the giant is fundamental also for speed. I worked on continuity, trying to combine instinct and technique so that one strengthens the other.”.
A preparation that the Goggia defines “a path of reconstruction. I feel I’m more aware of what my body and mind need. There is a different clarity in my work: I am more mature, more oriented to long-term balance.” And the first verification of this work will be on the Corviglia: “St.Moritz is a place I love, it is a challenging and technical track. The first speed race arrives a bit late, but I already broke the ice with giant races. It is a track where you have to attack with clarity and where the experience really counts. There are no great visual references, so it is not an easy track, but I know it well.”.
