Government, Foti replaces Fitto as minister for European Affairs

ROME (ITALPRESS) – The president of the Republic signed the decree accepting Raffaele Fitto’s resignation as minister of European Affairs on Nov. 30, 2024. Mattarella received at the Quirinal Palace the president of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, who proposed the appointment of Tommaso Foti as minister.

Immediately afterwards, the new minister was sworn in at the hands of President Mattarella in the presence, as witnesses, of the Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic, Ugo Zampetti, and the Military Advisor to the President of the Republic, General Gianni Candotti.

Council President Giorgia Meloni and Undersecretary to the Council Presidency Alfredo Mantovano were present.

“Tommaso Foti has been sworn in as minister in the hands of President Mattarella, and I would like to offer him my heartfelt congratulations, both my own and those of the entire government. Tommaso is a politician of great experience and ability, among the best resources Fratelli d’Italia has today. He has a long parliamentary career behind him and, as leader of Fratelli d’Italia’s group in the Chamber of Deputies, he has been able to demonstrate his value and competence in this legislature, leading the main majority party in Montecitorio. He is a militant, passionate and consistent, who has dedicated his life from a very young age to the service of his community and the nation,” Speaker Giorgia Meloni said in a note.
“Minister Foti picks up the baton of Raffaele Fitto, newly appointed Executive Vice President of the European Commission, and I am certain that he will know how to work with the same determination and meticulousness. For the good of Italy and the Italians,” Meloni concluded.
