ROME (ITALPRESS) – A meeting convened by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was held this afternoon at Palazzo Chigi regarding the detention of Italian journalist Cecilia Sala in Iran. The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, Justice Minister Carlo Nordio, Undersecretary to the Prime Minister’s Office Alfredo Mantovano, and the President’s diplomatic adviser Fabrizio Saggio. This is reported in a note from Palazzo Chigi.At the outcome of the meeting, the government confirms its commitment to the Iranian authorities for the immediate release of Cecilia Sala, and, pending her release, for treatment that respects human dignity.Regarding Mohammad Abedini, who is currently in pre-trial detention at the request of U.S. authorities, the government reiterates that all detainees are guaranteed equal treatment in accordance with Italian laws and international conventions.Undersecretary Mantovano, in his capacity as Delegated Authority, meeting the requests of the oppositions, gave immediate availability to the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for the Security of the Republic, Lorenzo Guerini, to report to COPASIR as early as tomorrow morning, and then through him to Parliament.During the afternoon, President Meloni also had a telephone conversation with Renato Sala, Cecilia’s father, and met at Palazzo Chigi with her mother, Elisabetta Vernoni.-photo Ipa Agency -(ITALPRESS).
