ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The European Commission has adopted the social plan for the climate of Greece. This is the fifth and largest national plan adopted so far within the framework of the Social Fund for Climate, which will use the proceeds of emission quotas to promote the clean transition and support consumers and vulnerable enterprises. The plan was drawn up by the Greek authorities along with the Commission. It will help reduce emissions by 811 thousand tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year by 2032. It will mobilise €4.77 billion up to 2032, of which 3.57 billion (75%) from the EU and 1,2 billion (25%) from national funds.
The plan will support 460.000 vulnerable families by reducing their dependence on fossil fuels through support for up to 62,000 renovations and the installation of 200,000 heat pumps and solar water heating systems. The plan will also expand the country’s popular building park with 2,800 new high energy efficiency social units. EUR 226 million will be earmarked for the restructuring of public student residences, improving access to higher education for 5,930 vulnerable students. A temporary heating allowance will also support up to 800,000 vulnerable families per year to cope with their heating costs.
