Guardasigilli Carlo Nordio meets with Serbian counterpart Maja Popovic

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Guardasigilli Carlo Nordio received this morning in his office in Via Arenula the Minister of Justice of Serbia, Maja Popovic, who is visiting Rome. The focus of the talks was an exchange of views on the two countries’ judicial systems and cooperation in the field of justice, based on the two bilateral agreements signed in 2019 on extradition and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters. Popovic also outlined the main points of the justice reform being carried out in Serbia, which is required for Belgrade’s accession to the European Treaties.Minister Nordio and his counterpart Popovic then focused on a topic of common interest: the fight against transnational organized crime, an area in which our National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Directorate has effective collaborations in place with Serbian counterparts to combat criminal phenomena in the Balkans. “Serbia is making very important steps forward with justice reform and also in the process of accession to the European Union. Our common fight against organized crime confirms the excellent relations between the two countries, which we intend to continue and strengthen for the security and good of our fellow citizens,” said Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio.The minister is leading a delegation of Serbian magistrates on a study mission organized by the Department of Judicial Organization in Via Arenula, as part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe project “Support for implementation of the justice reform in Serbia.” The delegation will also visit the Higher School of the Judiciary and the Higher Council of the Judiciary.- photo press office Ministry of Justice -(ITALPRESS).
