ROME (ITALPRESS) – “Cancer. A widespread and feared pitfall, felt as an inexorable condemnation until not so many years ago. It was an important achievement to have given it back its dimension as a disease that can be fought, thanks to medicine, and therefore to the research that drives it.” Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, at the ceremony celebrating “The Days of Research” at the Quirinale. “In order to allow the effectiveness of research results not to encounter obstacles, it is necessary to remove and overcome conditions of territorial gap. It is our responsibility to ensure that these gaps do not arise in the fight against cancer. The universality of care and equal rights are inalienable principles of the Republic,” he points out, “as the Constitution prescribes to us. Research, prevention, treatment, go hand in hand. Research has made it possible to take extraordinary steps forward. Thanks to research, thanks to immuno-oncology and targeted therapies, the history of the fight against many cancers has changed. The head of state notes that “research has been able to take advantage of the new avenues hypothesized and opened up over the years, benefiting other branches of medicine as well. This was the case with the covid vaccines, which were defined in record time. It is necessary to raise – in institutions and in society – the awareness that the resources invested in research return multiplied.” According to the head of state, “the generosity of Italians should be encouraged, not limited. The network that unites doctors, scientists, volunteers of all ages and social classes, patients and donors, represents a factor of great vitality. It fits into the fabric of solidarity that holds our country together.”(ITALPRESS).-Photo: Quirinale-
