House no-confidence motion on Almasri case, Nordio “Let us not waver in the face of attacks”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “The minister of justice had wide discretion whether or not to approach the International Criminal Court. The activity of the minister is not that of a paper-pusher, but of a body that has to activate an investigative or pre-investigative activity especially relating to other governmental and non-governmental bodies. And he can do that when the documents that come to him from the ICC are unconvincing or reveal inaccuracies. And in this case they have done so.” Justice Minister Carlo Nordio said this while speaking in the House on the occasion of the no-confidence motion filed against him by oppositions regarding the case of Libyan General Al-Masri.

“I suspect that all these attacks, which are now continuing because they are coming from all sides and in the most bogus ways, are beginning to give the feeling that this is a planned and sustained attack to prevent the mother of all reforms: the separation of careers and the inclusion of the lottery in the Superior Council of the Judiciary,” he added: “Whatever the attacks, we will not waver or hesitate. The reform will go forward. The more violent and improper the attacks against us, the stronger and more determined we will be. And if you do your worst, we will do our best.”
