Hyundai and Michelin collaborate in tyre development for future mobility

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – Hyundai Motor Group has signed a third Memorandum of Understanding with Michelin to accelerate the development of innovative technologies for tyres, designed to shape the mobility market of the future. This new agreement renews and strengthens a consolidated collaboration between the two companies, initiated with the previous protocols of understanding of 2017 and 2022. As part of the new three-year partnership, the two companies will collaborate on the joint research and development of very low rolling resistance tires to maximize fuel efficiency, and high performance tyres to improve road safety and seal. On improving tyre performance for premium electric vehicles, which require cutting-edge technology to elevate performance, safety and autonomy. On the creation of a virtual tyre development system for off-road applications and the advancement of SmartGrip technology to improve braking performance and efficiency The collaboration aims to meet the changing needs of electric and autonomous vehicles, including high load capacity, driving performance and environmental sustainability. “Through the third phase of technological collaboration with Michelin, we expect to realize innovations in tyre technology that will guide the future mobility market” said Yongsuk Shin, Vice President and Head of the Genesis Engineering Design Center of Hyundai Motor Group. “Using the specialized capabilities of both companies in mobility and tire technologies, we will use advanced solutions.” The Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2017 favoured the development of tyre technologies for IONIQ 5, while the agreement of 2022 led to significant progress in predicting wear and optimising braking performance. In the wake of these results, Hyundai Motor Group and Michelin aim to speed up technological innovation and introduce revolutionary solutions for tyres destined for future mobility.
