ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Bosch is driving the transition to commercial vehicles defined by the software, with a broad portfolio of technologies for propulsion, thermal management, vehicle architecture, automation, connectivity and digital services. The company’s latest innovations help vehicle manufacturers and fleet operators face the most urgent challenges in the industry, from decarbonization and traffic safety to the growing complexity of software and systems in modern commercial vehicles. As a system partner, Bosch provides customized solutions that, through software and artificial intelligence, include both the vehicle hardware and the digital control system. Last May, Bosch announced the wish to create a new joint venture, by the end of the year, in collaboration with the two subsidiaries of the TSF Group, Brakes India Private Limited (BIPL) and Wheels India Limited (WIL). The creation of the new company is still subject to official approval. Through this joint venture, Bosch aims to expand its portfolio including intelligent actuators for compressed air generation, compressed air treatment, pneumatic air suspension and stationary brakes. The goal is to strengthen the company’s position in the commercial vehicle segment and further promote the development of commercial vehicles defined by software and connected transport solutions.
Electric powertrain: Bosch electrifies both light and heavy commercial vehicles, from single components to complete system solutions. Its new rigid e-axle integrates core components of the electric drive chain such as the electric motor and transmission into a solution for all categories of commercial vehicles. The axis reduces the weight of the vehicle and also operates more efficiently than traditional electric central drive. Combined with silicon carbide inverter, with an efficiency of up to 99%, this solution significantly reduces operating costs in freight transport. A global production and supply network also ensures reliable delivery directly to sites in all relevant markets.
High-voltage motor-driven fan: Efficient thermal management is essential for the autonomy and performance of electric commercial vehicles. To this end, Bosch is introducing a new high voltage ventilation system for 800 volt architectures, specifically developed for electric commercial vehicles and off-road applications. The solution provides on-demand cooling for vehicle key components, reduces energy consumption and helps increase autonomy and efficiency.
Fuel-cell systems for buses and trucks: as a zero-emission powertrain solution for commercial vehicles, fuel cells use hydrogen and oxygen to produce water and electricity. Compared to a purely battery-powered motorization, this technology offers advantages such as lower system weight, greater autonomy and fast supply times. Bosch’s compact and highly integrated fuel cell system portfolio covers a power spectrum from 100 to 300 kilowatts allowing you to cover all types of use: urban buses, long-distance trucks and stationary applications.
Hydrogen engines as an alternative solution: Since 2025, Bosch has been providing components for various vehicles and test fleets worldwide: injectors, control units, direct and indirect injection sensors, as well as products for hydrogen tanks. As this propulsion solution is based on established architectures, automotive companies can continue to use existing development and production lines. Moreover, the hydrogen engine retains resources because it practically does not require hard raw materials to be found, as elements of trare erre or precious metals. Bosch also offers solutions for other alternative fuels, such as natural/methane gas, ethanol and methanol, often developed for specific regions or applications.
Digital Fuel Twin: Organic synthetic fuels reduce carbon emissions from existing fleets and commercial vehicles difficult to electrify. Bosch provides fleet operators using renewable synthetic fuels such as hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) Digital Fuel Twin. This cloud-based software feature automatically tracks the use of alternative fuels and documents the consequent reduction of emissions.
Integrated detection of fatigue in the side mirror: from mid-2026, the EU requires that all new registered trucks are equipped with alert systems for the driver based on sensors to prevent accidents caused by disregard or fatigue. Bosch is implementing the EU regulation particularly efficiently: an integrated camera in the left display of Bosch’s digital mirror monitors the driver’s attention, eliminating the need for manufacturers to install a separate unit. Two European truck manufacturers are already equipping their vehicles with this standard solution. A separate control unit is still required to process image data, but in the future a central controller will take care of this task.
Data fusion sensor directly in the camera: modern trucks already use multiple video and radar sensors to monitor the surrounding environment. Bosch’s MPC4 Multifunction Camera is the first to allow data fusion from the many surround sensors. Compared to the previous model, Bosch has increased the computing power of one factor twenty and uses artificial intelligence (IA) to improve support systems such as lane-departure warning and emergency brake assist. The system, designed specifically for commercial vehicles, will enter production in 2027.
Radar technology with its own chip architecture: In addition to the camera, Bosch will present its new 7th generation radar sensor in 2027. The sensor uses waveguide antenna technology and a processing chip (on a chip, SoC) produced internally, while IA algorithms optimize signal quality. Technology adapts flexiblely to various E/E architectures, from traditional domain control units to high-performance computers that will define the truck defined by future software.
Predictive guide and simplified access: Connecting commercial vehicles to the cloud allows new security and convenience functions. For example, Bosch’s connected map services analyze real-time data on accidents, counter-hand vehicles and waterplaning phenomena to proactively intervene on driving assistance systems. The fleet management xtended access system, in turn, controls vehicle access using a physical key and a smartphone app. The digital key makes fleet programming easier for fleet managers.
Computer for commercial vehicles defined by software: To manage the growing complexity of modern trucks, Bosch is developing central E/E architectures with computers powerful and scalable vehicles. The cockpit integration platform, for example, combines all functions for the interaction with the driver from the infotainment system to other applications in the cockpit. For cross-domain functions, Bosch offers additional solutions such as the vehicle integration platform, which combines functions from motion domains, energy and bodywork on a central computing platform. These high-performance computers support fast ether software updates and advanced features such as secure gateways and other on-demand features.
Bosch’s subsidiary,ETAS offers a suite of vehicle software platforms, which provides a stable and secure base for the efficient development and management of a scalable vehicle architecture. Based on the Eclipse S-CORE open-source initiative, it supports all modern vehicle architectures – from classic control units to computers and powerful platforms for assisted and autonomous driving. Customers can use it to efficiently create state-of-the-art vehicle platforms and market them faster.
Diagnostic Solution from ETAS: Bosch’s subsidiary, ETAS, is introducing the health and repair of new generation vehicles, a service-oriented diagnostic approach based on ASAM SOVD standard. This system collects vehicle data, diagnostic functions and service information to quickly identify complex failures in commercial vehicles defined by the software. This allows workshops to plan and prepare for repairs more effectively, reduce downtime and increase repair rate to the first intervention – i.e. successfully complete repairs during the first customer visit in the workshop. At the same time, the diagnostic data collected is directly reinserted in the development and quality control, thus contributing to the continuous improvement of vehicles.
Power supply – fully electric steering: Bosch’s ServoE electromechanical system drives heavy commercial vehicles using only electricity and does not require oil, thus simplifying factory installation. The power-on-demand function reduces vehicle energy consumption during operation. Thanks to redundant design and secure software architecture from cyber attacks, the system allows assisted steering functions to autonomous driving. Moreover, ServoE opens the way to future steer-by-wire technologies without a mechanical connection between wheel and wheels.
Servotwin – Electrohydraulic steering system: The Servotwin steering system for heavy commercial vehicles combines a Servocom steering hydraulic system with scalable electric units. Its cybersecure software architecture reliably controls the SAE Level 2 steering assistance features and guidance assistance. In this way, Bosch significantly improves driving comfort and safety in long-range travel.
Rear steering for a smaller steering range: the Bosch rear-axle electrohydraulic system, as an autonomous power-on-demand system, steering up to three or more front or rear axles for heavy trucks. The additional steering on the axis reduces the steering radius and helps prevent premature tyre wear. Thanks to its compact design, the system adapts to all standard applications for motors and trailers.
Compact and low friction steering shaft: The modular steering shaft connects the steering mechanism to the steering column both in buses and in medium and heavy commercial vehicles. The mechanical component fully compensates for the relative movements between the cabin and the frame during the drive without affecting steering behaviour. In addition, this weight-optimized component features a highly compact design and a minimum internal friction.
airbag control unit for greater safety: Bosch protects heavy truck occupants in case of collision with an airbag system specifically designed for this market segment. In electric commercial vehicles, the 24 volt system ensures that the high voltage battery is automatically disconnected from the vehicle’s electrical system in the event of an accident. This protects both occupants and rescuers from dangers such as electric shocks or fires. The control unit also records incident data in the integrated event data recorder and transmits real-time datainformation on accidents at the internal network of the vehicle through the J1939 protocol.
