In 2025 Suzuki consolidates the share of 2% and prepares for new challenges

TORINO (ITALPRESS) – “Suzuki closes 2025 with 31.222 registered units and defending the threshold of 2% of Italian market share, first European subsidiary of Suzuki for volumes, despite the loss of the ultra compact SUV Ignis, and the iconic Jimny offroad, both sacrificial victims on the European altar of reduction of CO2. The European legislation, which provides for the severe penalization of thermal motorizations in favour of electric ones, confirms that it has failed the goal of guaranteeing the mobility of European citizens by reducing the climate-intensive emissions of CO2 and satisfying the needs in terms of individual mobility”, says Massimo Nalli, President and CEO of Suzuki Italia. Those who believed it was possible to change the demand “by decree” are now in difficulty for the weakness of the demand for electric vehicles that have cost so much in terms of investments. Many brands, in particular Europeans, have thus had to reduce production capacity and with it they had to reduce the number of jobs. It will soon be necessary to mitigate the norm as the European Commission has proposed to do on 16 December, if this initiative will not be followed by further steps in the direction of respect for the needs of customers. European motorists have proven to want cars with prices, autonomy and practicality similar to hybrid cars and unlike electric cars. This process does not prescind from the gradual reduction of CO2, for example, allowing large-scale use of CO2 fuels.

Suzuki has denounced the inconsistencies between the dictate of the law and the general situation of the availability of raw materials for the construction of traction batteries and the lack of “green” energy without which the transition to electric cars is useless or even harmful. Suzuki has defined and will continue to implement the maintenance strategy of thermal motorizations, those that represent more than 90% of the Italian market, alongside electric cars, like eVITARA that will be made available in the coming months to the Suzuki Network and which is already appreciated for the attractive sporty and elegant style combined with the exclusive and performing traction 4×4 on an electric car. According to data from UNRAE, the National Union of Foreign Vehicle Representatives, Suzuki has registered 31.222 registrations on the Italian market over the last twelve months. In a total scenario that saw the market at 1.525,722 units, down 2.1% compared to the previous year, the result allows Suzuki to reach a market share of 2.1%. Suzuki confirms, for the seventh consecutive year, a stable presence above the threshold of 2% of market share, a significant milestone that testifies to the firmness of the brand, the consistency of strategy and the continuity of the relationship of trust with Italian customers.

In the course of 2025, Swift Hybrid confirmed itself as the best-selling model of Suzuki, representing 36.8% of the overall sales of the brand. In its first year of marketing, the new Swift Hybrid registered 11.497 registrations, a result that allows it to be placed in seventh place among the most sold cars of the segment B. Vitara Hybrid, with 10.549 registered specimens represents 33.7% of Suzuki sales. The car is still a reference point of the B-SUV segment, a category that she created with the first generation in 1988. Vitara, thanks to targeted updates, maintains stable volumes in a very competitive market environment. This result demonstrates the validity of the model formula and Suzuki’s ability to propose products that combine reliability and value for customers over time. As for S-Cross Hybrid, a modern crossover that combines a muscular design and decided to a high technological efficiency, registrations reach 5,207 units. Designed for those seeking uncompromising versatility, S-Cross combines the wide interior space and the habitability typical of a family car with the agility needed to address with ease every driving condition.

The analysis of Suzuki’s sales in Italy clearly highlights how integral traction cars represent a strategic element in Hamamatsu’s product offering, which has always been recognised for its experience and leadership in the construction of 4×4 vehicles.

In 1970 Suzuki developed the first 4X4 integral traction model: the Jimny LJ10 and for over 50 years Suzuki 4X4 technology ALLGRIP provides the best solution to every need ensuring comfort of driving, safety and maximum control on all surfaces even in situations of poor grip, on slippery or snowy roads.

Approximately 30.4% of Suzuki registered in Italy in 2025 was 4WD, a very higher incidence than the share of integral cars on the Italian market.

In Europe, the automotive sector is experiencing a period of difficulty and uncertainties. At the heart of the debate there is a reduction in CO2 emissions and policies to promote the transition to electricity. In Italy, these measures have so far had a limited impact: the registrations of electric vehicles (BEV) have grown of 44% in relative terms, but still represent only 6.2% of the market, despite the incentives. The framework remains uncertain for the future, after the recent revision of Objectives 2035 and the possible further legislative changes. In this scenario Suzuki is ready to face the new year animated by great confidence.

The product range looks in line with the needs and demands of the Italian public, with adequate levels of accessibility and an effective commercial strategy. Its models, 100% hybrid and always available – standard or on demand – with automatic change, are punctually offered with complete setups in line with the policy “all series without surprises”. In the spring to give a further boost to the sales will provide the electric eVITARA, already available in pre-sales and characterized by integral traction with dual-motor technology. Thinking of the further future, Suzuki promotes a vision of long-term sustainability through the “Suzuki Environmental Vision 2050” plan, which aims to reduce the emissions of CO2 of vehicles by 40% by 2030 and 90% by 2050, through the electrification of the range, the adoption of alternative fuels and optimization of production processes. Inspired by the Japanese principle “Sho-Sho-Kei-Tan-Bi” (Little, Minim, Light, Short, Bello”, the company develops compact, light and efficient vehicles. This concept underlines the role of Suzuki as a pioneer in promoting new solutions for carbon neutrality, enhancing existing technologies and the current infrastructure for an immediate and real impact with the aim of “contributing to society”.
