In difficult times, America points to the beauty: Raffaello al Met

by Stefano Vaccara

NEW YORK (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – In a historical moment marked by geopolitical tensions and conflicts that cross more areas of the world, art returns to offer a space of reflection and breath. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York was presented at the press “Raphael: Sublime Poetry”, one of the most anticipated exhibitions of the year, which brings to the United States masterpieces of the great master of the Italian Renaissance. It is a project of very high profile, made possible thanks to the collaboration between the Met and numerous Italian institutions, with exceptional loans that allow the American public to get in direct contact with the work of Raffaello. An initiative that goes beyond the exhibition dimension and fits into a broader cultural dialogue between Italy and the United States.

The agency Italpress interviewed both the director of the Met, Max Hollein, and the curator of the exhibition, Carmen Bambach, among the most authoritative scholars of the Renaissance. Both emphasise the importance of exposure to this level in the United States, especially in a complex historical phase such as the present one. Their reflections express the value of bringing to the American public not only extraordinary works, but also a broader cultural message. Bambach, who speaks perfectly Italian, recalls in particular the historical context in which Raffaello lived, an era also marked by wars and instability. And precisely from that context, he emphasizes, an art is born capable of grasping the beauty and essence of the human, offering a perspective that also resounds in the present. At the presentation of the exhibition there is also an important institutional moment. In New York is in fact present the Italian Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli, who in the evening will participate to a special event and a reception dedicated to the exhibition. A presence that highlights the strategic value of this initiative, also on the level of international cultural relations. The exhibition arrives at a symbolic moment for the United States, at the threshold of the celebrations for the 250 years of independence, and contributes to strengthening a historical link with Italy based on culture and art. In a global context marked by divisions, projects such as this show how cultural cooperation can continue to build bridges.
