ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The 34th edition of Fespo & Golfmesse, the largest tourist event in Switzerland, kicks off. Also present is Enit, who returns to the Swiss market to promote the excellence of Made in Italy, along with the regions Sardinia and Basilicata. Focus on luxury and golf, themes at the center of the event. Italy has seen growing exponentially the phenomenon of holidays “luxury”, it is thought that in the last 25 years international tourism has continued to choose more and more our destinations, so that inbound spending has even doubled, passing from 29,9 billion euros of 2000 to 54,2 billion of 2024 (+81.2%).
For one night, tourists from the Principality of Monaco (average 685 euros) and Slovenia (average 538 euros), followed by those arriving from Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrein, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, New Zealand and Dubai1. Luxury tourism in Italy that has adapted our welcome system, which today boasts almost 771 luxury hotels with five stars and five superior stars, with a total capacity of 103.656 beds2. The movements recorded in these structures include 4.7 million tourist arrivals (+7.6%) and 14.1 million total overnight stays (+9.7%).
There is then shopping tourism, one of the indicators of this segment, which between January to September 2025 has recorded 458 thousand overnight stays of foreign tourists motivated by the purchases of our most famous brands, with an increase of +46.8% on 2024 in the face of a greater stability in the number of travellers (more than 5 million) and tourist spending (784 million euros).
As far as golf is concerned, Italy is in the top 3 of the most relevant European destinations to carry out this activity. “The numbers are the best evidence of the health of the Italian tourist sector. The various compartments show that we are growing and that we are able to attract different groups of tourists, responding to numerous needs. The phenomenon of luxury vacation, together with that of shopping tourism, are increasingly sought after by international tourists, who choose to come to Italy to live our authenticity, willing to spend and invest for Made in Italy. A train to our economy, which generates employment and well-being for the entire country,” said Ivana Jelinic, Ad di Enit.
