ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Behind every transplant there is a life story that continues, but also a complex system made of skills, technologies and rigorous protocols that make the path of donation possible. This is precisely the heart of the event “Together for donation: a synergy between health professions, institutions and citizens”, scheduled on April 10 in Rome, in the Sala Mechelli of the Regional Council of Lazio.
“The donation of organs is one of the highest expressions of solidarity and civil liability. Behind this gesture there are highly specialized skills and teamwork involving numerous technical health professions. Making citizens know this daily commitment means strengthening confidence in the healthcare system and promoting a culture of increasingly conscious donation,” says Andrea Lenza, president of the Order TSRM and PSTRP of Rome and province.
The initiative was born precisely with the aim of lighting the spotlight on a often little known aspect: the contribution of technical health professions in the different stages leading from the diagnosis of encephalic death to transplantation and monitoring of patients.
The health professions in the path of donation
The conference will focus on the work of professionals involved in the donation process, ensuring safety and quality in compliance with procedures. Among these, neurophysiopathology technicians, engaged in ascertaining encephalic death; biomedical laboratory health technicians, who carry out fundamental investigations in pre and post transplant phases; medical radiology technicians, involved in diagnostic and monitoring procedures; and cardiovascular physiopathology and perfusion technicians, central figures in explantation and transplantation procedures. Professionals operating within a highly regulated system, based on scientific evidence, regulations and shared protocols.
Strict protocols and system organization
One of the objectives of the meeting will also be to highlight the organizational complexity that accompanies the path of donation. The correct functioning of the system requires precise procedures, coordination between structures and a prompt availability of technical staff. In this context it becomes essential to develop protocols and procedures shared at regional level, capable of ensuring rapid intervention, performance quality and operational continuity in the most delicate moments of the process.
In addition to the technical and organizational aspects, great attention will be paid to the topic of information. Knowing in detail how the verification, explantation and transplantation procedures work is in fact one of the most effective tools to strengthen the confidence of citizens. A clear and transparent communication allows us to overcome doubts and fears and to foster a conscious choice, contributing to spreading the culture of donation as a gesture of solidarity and collective responsibility.
A comparison between health, institutions and associations
The day will be articulated in scientific sessions dedicated to the different phases of the path of donation and transplantation, alongside moments of comparison between health professionals, institutions and associations engaged in the promotion of the culture of gift.
“This event was born with the aim of making known the work of the technical health professions involved in the path of donation and transplantation, a fundamental but often unseen contribution – explains Claudia Parisi, president of the Commission of the Technicians of Neurophysiopathology of the Order TSRM and PSTRP of Rome and province and scientific manager of the initiative -. We talk about highly specialized activities that take place following extremely rigorous protocols. Telling them also means strengthening citizens’ trust and promoting a culture of donation through an increasingly conscious choice.”.
The event is aimed at health professionals but also at citizens interested in deepening the theme of organ and tissue donation. Registration is free and the available places are limited. The goal of the organizers is to build a moment of confrontation capable of approaching health, institutions and communities, strengthening the knowledge of the path of donation and the high human value connected to it.
