ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The second Forum of Italian-uzbeko Higher Education, organised by the Conference of Rectors of Italian Universities (Crui) in collaboration with the Ministry of University and Research, the University of Rome Tre and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Uzbek Innovation, was held today in the Magna Hall of Rome. The first was held in September 2024 in Uzbekistan. The work also counted the presence of the Minister of the University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, and her Uzbeka counterpart, the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Kongratbay Sharipov. The two ministers also had a bilateral meeting to define the next lines of collaboration between the two university systems.
The Forum of Italian-uzbeko rectors “is a project that is working, of which we are very proud”, said Bernini speaking with journalists at the edge of the event. “We have about a thousand Uzbeki students in our universities studying technical and humanities, and we have Italian students who go mainly to the University of Tashkent, but also to Samarkand in other places in Uzbekistan, to form with Uzbeki professors and Italian professors on italo-uzbeke initiatives. This applies both to university and research, we are working on both fronts,” explained Bernini. “I must say that this (project) is improving a lot, not only our relationship with Uzbekistan, but the role of Uzbekistan within Central Asia. We are doing with them some infrastructure qualification, we are giving them some of our infrastructure capabilities, for example the electrosincrotrone of Trieste”, Bernini remarked. “Part of the infrastructure we send it to Uzbekistan to make sure that they also create a center, an electrosyncrotron that works from a technological point of view but also to make technological archaeology, so to read papyri, to discover, to do research and archaeological discoveries,” the minister concluded.
Massimiliano Fiorucci, Rector of the University Roma Tre, has defined the Forum of Italian-uzbeko rectors hosted today “a great opportunity for meeting” and internationalization. “This is the second forum with Uzbeki rectors. There is a great desire to collaborate both in the field of higher education and in the field of research. Uzbekistan is a very interesting country, expanding and growing, and I believe this is the opportunity to learn one another and build bridges with this important part of the world, a part that is growing a lot and believes a lot in the value of university education,” Fiorucci noted. Tiziana Lippiello, director of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and delegate of the Conference of Italian Universities for International Relations, said to the agency Italpress that “this second forum consolidates what we have already launched two years ago in Tashkent, therefore a fruitful collaboration that has given results”. According to the Vice-President of the Italian-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce, Marco Farci, the forum, with the presence of two ministers, bears witness to a growth of bilateral relations.
“As a result of the visit of our Prime Minister, who was in May in Uzbekistan, the country is facing Italy as a great resource in many fields. At this moment we celebrate that of education, as Uzbekistan has become the first Italian university hub in the world with four Italian branches that have opened and above all with an interchange of students that is growing over time,” Farci noted. “The collaboration between Italy and Uzbekistan has many sectors. Also from the point of view of the workers we know that an agreement has been signed with the decree flows, that previews the regular work of Uzbeki in Italy. So Uzbekistan is actually making an important contribution to Italy and we are giving it in terms of technology, science and cooperation”, said Farci.
