In Washington, DC, the second edition of the Italpress Awards

WASHINGTON (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – Friuli Venezia Giulia President Massimiliano Fedriga, Italian Ambassador to the United States Mariangela Zappia, oncologist Antonio Giordano, AmCham President Stefano Lucchini, Ita Airways General Manager Massimo Allegri and De Gasperi Foundation President Angelino Alfano: they are the honorees of the second edition of the Italpress Awards. The award was established by the news agency founded and directed by Gaspare Borsellino to enhance relations between the United States and Italy in business, culture, and media and was presented in Washington at the 49th Anniversary Gala weekend of NIAF, the National Italian American Foundation with which Italpress, recently signed a three-year partnership.
An agreement that will “amplify NIAF’s voice, opening up new opportunities for young Italian Americans pursuing careers in media and communications,” said President Robert Allegrini, referring to internships that the Foundation and Italpress will promote together for young graduates precisely because of the partnership.
“A cross-media agency, with an increasingly rooted presence abroad. This is what we are working on in these years. This is our future. And the Italpress Awards are one of the pieces of this project,” says Gaspare Borsellino.

“Free and responsible information is fundamental to ensuring a country’s democracy. The degree of knowledge and responsible information determine people’s freedom,” said Governor Fedriga.
On the same wavelength was Ambassador Zappia: “We need to strongly emphasize the role that the press and communication play in the work of all of us,” which is precisely what initiatives such as the Italpress Awards do, she said.
In addition to the awardees, the ceremony was also attended by Senator Maria Stella Gelmini, Enav CEO Pasqualino Monti, Special Commissioner for the 2016 earthquake Guido Castelli, and journalist Gianni Riotta, among others.
“There is so much desire for Italy in the United States here in Washington, and I believe there are extraordinary opportunities for Made in Italy in the U.S.,” Senator Gelmini said.
For Riotta, the Italpress Awards were an opportunity to recall his Italian roots and his long experience in the States.
Castelli, for his part, cited the contribution that the Italian-American community and Niaf have made to those territories that were devastated by four earthquake tremors in 2016: “We are here to thank you and to testify how the possibilities for revitalization and development of our territories still pass through collaborations like these.”
The ceremony was presented by Stefano Vaccara. Official sponsors of the event Enel, GKSD, Menarini and Webuild.
