PIEVE EMANUELE (ITALPRESS) – The inauguration of the 2025/2026 Academic Year of Humanitas University was held this morning. Present at the ceremony the Minister of Health Orazio Schillaci, the President of Regione Lombardia Attilio Fontana, the Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala and the Mayor of Pieve Emanuele Pierluigi Costanzo. Lectio Magistralis was entrusted to Professor Michael N. Hall, a Swiss-American molecular biologist, professor at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel and winner of numerous international scientific awards and awards, including the Balzan 2024 Award for the discovery of a protein that regulates cell growth and aging.
His studies have concrete implications for modern medicine, especially age-related diseases such as cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. During the Ceremony the 20 years of Irccs accreditation of the Humanitas Clinical Institute were remembered. A milestone in which Humanitas University plays a key role both in the preparation of future generations of Healthcare professionals and researchers, and in terms of response to innovation challenges in the field, including technological and Artificial Intelligence.
“We are responsible for developing innovation to change people’s quality of life – says Gianfelice Rocca, President of Humanitas – in a context never as complex as the last post-war period. We do this from the 3000 students of Humanitas University, increasingly international, from the 9000 professionals working in our hospitals and from the more than 500 people of the Open Faculty who help and support students in their path. The Irccs of Rozzano is investing a lot in an increasingly data-based research, and the University is an indispensable part of this challenge: By connecting millions of information, under the guidance of the human intelligence of doctors-researchers and students, we can make a difference to patients. The Irccs represent a huge competitive advantage and pride for Italy and Europe, as well as the ideal place to train future professionals, with the mentality necessary to guide the evolution of the sector. And that’s why they have to be valued. We do not forget that we are a community that cares thanks to nurses, physiotherapists and technicians who in our University find a competitive training for their vocation”
Words that echo those of the Rector of Humanitas University, professor Luigi Maria Terracciano: “In Humanitas University, we prepare doctors “Motherlingua Ricerca”. Our mission is to improve people’s health by transforming scientific knowledge into a clinical impact. We do this by promoting an integrated research environment with assistance, guided by real clinical questions and oriented to concrete solutions. The new technologies have been assimilated in training courses, as demonstrated by the MEDTEC course of Medicine and Surgery and Biomedical Engineering with the Politecnico di Milano, which this year saw the first graduates; the PRIME PhD, always with Polytechnic, with a strong vocation to innovation and technology applied to medicine; or even the Master of Science in Data Analysis and Artificial Intelligence in Health Sciences, in collaboration with Bocconi University”.
Among the morning speeches, also that of Anastasia Lalioti, specializing in Oncology and already a student of Medicine and Surgery of the University, who took part in the program Virgil whose goal is to form the figure of the doctor researcher: “The cure is not an isolated act, but a continuous process based on the improvement of the understanding of biological and molecular mechanisms that are responsible for the manifestation of the disease itself. In an increasingly technological world, where Artificial Intelligence, Genetics and Molecular Biology are redefining Medicine, having this double perspective is no longer a luxury but a necessity. Because only those who know both dimensions – the cell and the person – can really innovate without forgetting the human being.”.
